Senegal launches Fii Senegal 2025 to drive Foreign Investment, growth

DAKAR, Senegal, October 6, 2025/ — Senegal has officially launched Fii Senegal 2025, a flagship investment forum that the government hopes will position the country as one of Africa’s most dynamic gateways for capital and economic transformation.

The event, held in Diamniadio under the high patronage of President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, seeks to attract global investors by presenting a wide range of opportunities in energy, infrastructure, and digital technologies. Officials say the forum is more than a showcase; it is a declaration that Senegal is ready to compete with other leading African economies for long-term investment.

“Senegal is positioning itself as a crossroads between Africa and the rest of the world, a gateway for attracting capital, technology, and expertise,” said Bakary Séga Bathily, Director General of APIX, the state agency overseeing investment promotion and infrastructure projects.

With the central theme “connecting opportunities, building the future,” Fii Senegal 2025 presents a carefully selected portfolio of strategic projects. The government is emphasizing three priority sectors where Senegal believes it has the strongest potential to deliver rapid growth.

Energy will remain at the heart of the country’s transformation. The exploitation of natural gas from the Yakaar-Teranga field, combined with scaled investments in solar and wind power, is expected to turn Senegal into a regional exporter of electricity and a cost-competitive energy hub. At a time when many African nations are grappling with unreliable power supplies, Senegal sees the chance to become a net supplier across West Africa.

In infrastructure, projects such as the $1.2 billion Ndayane Port, the Dakar-Bamako transport corridor, and large-scale water systems are being highlighted at Fii Senegal 2025. These initiatives are not only expected to ease trade flows but also strengthen resilience in a country already experiencing rapid urbanization. Improved connectivity is vital for long-term competitiveness, and Dakar aims to position itself as a logistics center serving both West Africa and international shipping routes.

The digital economy is also central to Senegal’s investment pitch. With initiatives ranging from a sovereign cloud to a national data center and startup incubators focused on fintech, AI, and cybersecurity, the government wants to demonstrate that Senegal can compete beyond traditional sectors. Officials believe this diversification will help create thousands of skilled jobs while making the economy less dependent on commodities.

According to official projections, Senegal’s economy is expected to grow by 8.4% in 2025, fueled by the first gas exports. That momentum, paired with the country’s reputation for political stability and its location granting access to more than 400 million consumers in ECOWAS, gives Dakar confidence that Fii Senegal 2025 will send a strong signal to global markets.

“Fii Senegal 2025 is more than a forum—it’s a message to the world that Senegal is serious about transparency, innovation, and sustainable growth,” Bathily emphasized.

The optimism is also built on recent results. In 2024, Senegal attracted nearly $3 billion in foreign direct investment, primarily in energy and infrastructure. Officials hope this year’s edition will not only secure new commitments but also accelerate the conversion of memorandums of understanding into concrete, bankable projects.

Senegal is also seeking to differentiate itself from other African investment destinations such as Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya by offering regulatory reforms and incentives. These include a modernized Investment Code, the Startup Act, and strengthened public-private partnerships designed to reassure international investors.

By hosting Fii Senegal 2025, the government is signaling that it intends to be at the center of Africa’s transformation story. The forum is expected to attract investors from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America, reflecting a broader trend of rising global interest in Africa’s growth potential.
