Dakar, Senegal – October 1, 2025 — Senegal is preparing to host the Forum Invest in Senegal (Fii Senegal 2025) on October 7 and 8 at the CICAD in Diamniadio, with a strong focus on energy, youth, and competitiveness. The event comes just weeks after the government announced a record $300 million solar-for-agriculture program, the largest investment ever made to electrify rural areas.
“Energy and youth are not two separate priorities—they are the most powerful drivers of Senegal’s growth,” said Bakary Séga Bathily, Director General of APIX, the country’s investment promotion agency.
Senegal’s government has set ambitious targets: achieving universal access to electricity and raising the share of renewables in its energy mix to 40% by 2030. Currently, 84% of the population has access to electricity, but rural areas remain underserved. The new solar-for-agriculture initiative is designed to bridge that gap while advancing sustainability.

The forum’s high-level sessions will gather top officials and industry leaders, including Khadim Bamba Diagne, Permanent Secretary of COS-PETROGAZ; Birame Souleye Diop, Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines; Biro Condé of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC); Abdoulaye Dia of the West African Power Pool (WAPP); and Pierre Goudiaby Atepa of CIS. Together, they will examine how Senegal can capitalize on its energy resources—solar, wind, gas, and oil—while ensuring energy security and growth.
Senegal’s energy transition strategy is bolstered by the Just Energy Transition Partnership and a pledge to expand production capacity by 70%. The country is also leveraging significant oil and gas reserves, with milestones such as the 2024 installation of Africa’s first floating regasification and power generation unit.
At the same time, Senegal’s leaders are placing youth at the center of development plans. With 75% of its population under the age of 35, the country sees young people as critical to project implementation, labor market growth, and competitiveness. “Fii Senegal 2025 will demonstrate how these projects translate into opportunities that empower youth, accelerate our energy transition, and position Senegal as a major global investment hub,” Bathily emphasized.
Themed “Connecting opportunities, building the future,” Fii Senegal 2025 aims to showcase how the country is combining sustainable energy initiatives with human capital investment to drive inclusive growth.
