Police hunt man who attacked girlfriend with acid in Edo

A young woman suffers severe injuries in an Edo acid attack while authorities intensify the hunt for the fleeing suspect responsible.

A horrifying acid attack in Edo State has left a young woman, Angela Ogah, critically injured after her boyfriend, Timothy Gilbert, allegedly poured a corrosive substance on her.

The suspect is currently on the run, prompting urgent calls for law enforcement to intervene.

The attack reportedly occurred in Amufi, within Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, sparking widespread fear and outrage across the community.

According to Angela’s lawyer, John Izegaegbe, the victim was immediately admitted to a private hospital, where she remains under intensive care.

Doctors are treating severe burns, emphasizing the need for immediate and sustained medical attention in cases of acid attack.

Izegaegbe confirmed that a petition has been sent to Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, urging swift action to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene as the attack unfolded. The suspect allegedly poured the corrosive substance on Angela during an argument and fled the scene before neighbors could intervene.

The incident has raised concerns about personal safety and the rising threat of acid attacks in the region.

Law enforcement authorities have intensified their search for Timothy Gilbert, reviewing CCTV footage and gathering eyewitness statements to locate him.

The police have assured the public that acid attacks are treated as serious criminal offenses and that the suspect will face the full weight of the law.

Experts warn that acid attacks not only inflict severe physical injuries but also cause long-term psychological trauma.

Survivors often require multiple surgeries, prolonged rehabilitation, and emotional support to recover fully.

Advocates emphasize that cases like Angela Ogah’s highlight the urgent need for preventive measures, stricter regulations on the sale of corrosive substances, and public awareness campaigns.

Civil society organizations and local communities have called for swift justice, urging authorities to track down the suspect and provide support for the victim.

“We are asking everyone to assist law enforcement in ensuring the suspect is apprehended. Acid attacks are cruel and must not go unpunished,” said Izegaegbe.

While Angela Ogah battles to survive, the search for the perpetrator continues. Residents of Amufi and nearby communities are cooperating with authorities to provide any information that could help locate the suspect.

The case has reignited discussions about intimate partner violence, the dangers of corrosive substances, and the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals from such attacks.

The tragic incident underscores the need for stricter laws, preventive strategies, and community vigilance to curb acid attacks in Nigeria. It also highlights the vital role of rapid medical response and legal support in saving lives and ensuring justice.
