Tiwa Savage Music Foundation partners with Berklee to empower Nigerian creatives

The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation partners with Berklee College to train Nigerian creatives, offering world-class music education and mentorship opportunities.

The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, in partnership with the prestigious Berklee College of Music, is set to transform music education in Nigeria. This collaboration provides emerging African creatives with access to world-class training, mentorship, and professional development, bridging the gap between raw talent and international standards.

Tiwa Savage, the global Afrobeats superstar, explained that her own scholarship experience at Berklee inspired the foundation. “Talent is universal but access is not,” she said. The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation aims to ensure that young artists, producers, and songwriters receive structured training and guidance to reach their full potential.

Empowering Nigerian Creatives Through Berklee
By partnering with Berklee, the foundation offers students exposure to internationally recognized faculty and a curriculum designed to develop skills across performance, songwriting, production, and music business. The program strengthens Nigeria’s creative ecosystem by preparing artists and professionals for sustainable careers.

Tiwa Savage highlighted that Afrobeats’ global success underscores the need for professional training: “An industry cannot stand on artists alone. To grow sustainably, we must train the professionals behind the music.” The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation delivers precisely this, combining mentorship with hands-on learning.

Berklee in Nigeria: Intensive Music Program
The foundation’s first major project, “Berklee in Nigeria: Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Program,” will take place in Lagos from April 23–26, 2026. One hundred selected participants will undergo four days of intensive workshops, covering live performance, songwriting, music production, sound engineering, and the business of music.

The program combines theory and practice, culminating in live ensemble performances and scholarship evaluations. Participants benefit from the expertise of Berklee faculty, gaining both technical proficiency and real-world experience.

Expanding Access to World-Class Education
A core mission of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation is to make elite music education accessible. Berklee tuition is often cost-prohibitive, but the foundation offers tuition-free training to selected participants. Top performers may even earn scholarships for further study at Berklee’s Boston campus or through its online programs, ensuring global opportunities for African talent.

Developing the Full Creative Ecosystem
Beyond performance, the foundation trains creatives in music publishing, copyright, and intellectual property management, areas often overlooked by young African musicians. This holistic approach ensures participants are equipped to manage their careers professionally, making the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation a catalyst for both creative and entrepreneurial growth.

Tiwa Savage plans for the foundation to evolve into permanent programs and partnerships across Africa. By establishing long-term mentorship networks, scholarship programs, and professional development pathways, the initiative seeks to build a sustainable music ecosystem.
Applications for the intensive program are open until March 20, 2026. Selection focuses on passion, talent, and commitment to professional growth. Tuition is free for selected participants, though travel and accommodation are self-funded.

The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, powered by the Berklee partnership, promises to elevate African music education. By equipping young creatives with world-class skills, mentorship, and industry insight, the initiative ensures that Nigerian and African talent can thrive locally and compete globally.
Savage emphasized that the foundation empowers artists not only to perform but also to innovate and lead. Through this collaboration, the next generation of African creatives will have the tools, networks, and confidence to make a global impact.
