Lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have publicly declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027, while also backing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign in 2026.
The announcement was made at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo over the weekend, signaling a strategic political alignment aimed at promoting stability and progress within the state.
At the meeting, which brought together both federal and state assembly members of the PDP in Osun State, the legislators expressed their confidence in the leadership of both President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke.

The lawmakers, through a communique read by Deputy Minority Leader of the National Assembly, Senator Lere Oyewumi, highlighted the achievements of Governor Adeleke across critical sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, and workers’ welfare.
Senator Oyewumi commended Governor Adeleke for prioritizing the welfare of civil servants and advancing developmental projects that have enhanced the quality of life for residents.
He said: “Having reviewed the governor’s performance in infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, health care, education, and democratic stability, we unanimously endorse Governor Adeleke for a second term in the interest of continuity, stability, and sustained progress for Osun State.”
The PDP lawmakers also issued a stern warning to individuals who are impersonating party executives in the state, reaffirming their full confidence in Sunday Bisi as the legitimate PDP State Chairman.
“The party will not tolerate impostors parading themselves as executives,” the communique noted, emphasizing the need for unity and adherence to democratic principles within the party.
Another key focus of the stakeholders’ meeting was the persistent crisis in some local councils in Osun State.
The legislators appealed to President Tinubu to intervene and ensure that the “illegal occupants” of council offices vacate immediately to prevent further political tension and potential disruption of governance.
This call highlights the PDP lawmakers’ commitment to ensuring peace, legality, and institutional integrity within the state’s local government system.
When asked about the party’s endorsement of President Tinubu, Senator Oyewumi reiterated: “Nothing has changed. It is the party’s stance to back him in 2027 while simultaneously supporting Governor Adeleke in 2026. Our position reflects our belief in leadership continuity, democratic stability, and developmental progress.”
The Osogbo meeting was attended by prominent political figures, including Bamidele Salam, representing Ede Federal Constituency, five other federal lawmakers from the state, as well as key members of the Osun State House of Assembly.
Among them were the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, Deputy Speaker Akinyode Oyewusi, and several other assembly members who collectively underscored the significance of party unity and coordinated action for the state’s progress.
Political analysts have noted that the endorsement by PDP lawmakers, despite Governor Adeleke contesting under the Accord Party, represents a strategic cross-party collaboration that prioritizes development over partisan differences.
This move is seen as an effort to maintain policy continuity and strengthen institutional frameworks in Osun State, especially in sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
Governor Adeleke’s administration has been widely praised for initiatives aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure, improving healthcare access, and promoting workers’ welfare.
The PDP lawmakers’ endorsement emphasizes the perceived positive trajectory of the state under his leadership and signals a broad-based consensus among legislators to support continued developmental policies.
The call for President Tinubu’s intervention in local government matters reflects growing concerns over governance challenges that could undermine state stability.
By urging the removal of illegal council occupants, PDP legislators aim to preempt conflict and reinforce democratic norms in Osun State.
Analysts argue that this step could also serve as a precedent for stronger federal oversight in resolving local disputes while respecting state autonomy.
In addition to political endorsements, the lawmakers used the meeting to stress the importance of party cohesion.
They highlighted the need for all stakeholders to remain committed to democratic processes and warned against any attempts to subvert party authority or mislead the public regarding the legitimate leadership of the PDP in Osun State.
In conclusion, the Osogbo meeting of PDP lawmakers in Osun State demonstrates a unified front in support of both national and state leadership.
Their endorsement of President Tinubu for 2027 and Governor Adeleke for 2026, coupled with the call for federal intervention in council crises, underscores a commitment to stability, development, and democratic integrity.
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections, the positions taken by these lawmakers are likely to influence broader political alignments and governance strategies within the state.
