Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, was reportedly involved in a road accident on Sunday evening along the Daura-Katsina Road, a development that quickly sparked reactions and speculations on social media.
The news first emerged through a tweet by Mohammed Jammal, popularly known as White Nigerian on social media, who disclosed that the Governor had been in a car accident while traveling from Daura to Katsina.
According to his post, the Governor allegedly sustained a fracture and was receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Daura, though he noted that the Governor had been stabilised.
The initial reports caused confusion and concern among citizens, as there was no immediate official confirmation, leading to various unverified narratives circulating online.
Amid the growing speculations, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, issued an official statement to clarify the situation.
In his statement, Mohammed confirmed that Governor Radda was indeed involved in a road accident but described the incident as minor. He assured the public that the Governor was in good health and had not suffered any serious injuries.
“Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, was involved in a minor road accident this evening along the Daura-Katsina Road while attending to official duties in the service of the people of the state,” the statement read.
He further explained that, as a precaution, the Governor was undergoing routine medical evaluation at a healthcare facility where he was being closely monitored by qualified medical personnel.
The statement emphasized that the Governor remained in high spirits and expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for His protection. Governor Radda also thanked the people of Katsina State and all well-wishers for their prayers and concern.
The statement, however, did not disclose the specific circumstances or cause of the accident, nor did it clarify whether members of the Governor’s convoy were involved or sustained any injuries.
Additionally, it remains unclear whether the Governor was returning from a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s residence in Daura at the time of the incident.
The Daura-Katsina Road is a well-known and frequently used route by public officials, especially as it connects the state capital, Katsina, to Daura — the hometown of former President Buhari. The timely response from the Government House helped to allay public fears and curb the spread of misinformation regarding the Governor’s wellbeing.
