The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away at the age of 90.

In a heartfelt condolence message issued by his media aide, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir described the late monarch’s one-year reign as impactful, peaceful, and pivotal to the preservation and promotion of the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Ibadan and the entire Oyo State.
Oba Olakulehin, who was born on July 5, 1935, joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025—just two days after celebrating his 90th birthday.
He was installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland in July 2024, following the demise of his predecessor, Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.
The grand installation ceremony of Oba Olakulehin took place on July 12, 2024, and was presided over by the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde. The event drew a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, political figures, cultural icons, and well-wishers from across the country, signifying the high regard in which he was held.
Though his reign lasted only one year, Oba Olakulehin will be remembered for his calm leadership, wisdom, and commitment to the unity and progress of Ibadanland.
Emir Sulu-Gambari extended his condolences to the immediate and extended family of the late Olubadan, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Council of Traditional Rulers, the government of Oyo State, and the people of Ibadan, noting that the revered monarch’s passing was a significant loss not only to his community but to the Yoruba race and Nigeria as a whole.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of Oba Olakulehin’s soul and beseeched Almighty God to grant the people of Ibadan the strength and resilience to cope with the painful loss of their beloved king.
