Tinubu seeks Senate approval for Dr Doro’s Ministerial nomination

President Tinubu urges Senate to confirm Dr Bernard Doro’s ministerial nomination, citing his vast healthcare, legal, and leadership experience for national growth.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Nigerian Senate, urging the legislative chamber to confirm Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State following his ministerial nomination.

The move underscores the President’s commitment to assembling a cabinet of competent professionals capable of advancing his administration’s “Renewed Hope” vision for national transformation.

In a statement released by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency explained that Dr Doro’s ministerial nomination follows the election of Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.

Prof. Yilwatda previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before assuming his new role, leaving a cabinet vacancy for which Dr Doro has now been selected.

Tinubu seeks Senate approval for Dr Doro’s Ministerial nomination

The President expressed confidence that the nominee’s professional background, multidisciplinary knowledge, and leadership experience would add value to the Federal Executive Council and contribute to Nigeria’s development goals.

The ministerial nomination is therefore seen as a step toward strengthening governance and promoting accountability in key sectors, especially healthcare, youth empowerment, and community development.

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro stands out as a distinguished professional with over two decades of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and social impact in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA focused on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

His diverse academic foundation uniquely positions him to bridge the gap between policy and practice, particularly in the health and social development sectors.

Dr Doro is a certified Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner under the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS).

Over the years, he has worked across urgent care units, walk-in centres, general practitioner clinics, and hospital settings.

His practical experience in patient care and service delivery has helped him develop a results-oriented, technology-driven approach to healthcare management.

According to Onanuga, Dr Doro has also been deeply involved in youth mentorship and social development programmes in both Nigeria and the diaspora.

He has led initiatives that promote education, innovation, and leadership among young professionals, empowering them to contribute positively to society.

His social impact work has earned him recognition as a compassionate leader committed to national progress.

Observers note that Dr Doro’s ministerial nomination reflects President Tinubu’s broader strategy of appointing qualified technocrats into public office.

The President has consistently emphasized competence, integrity, and proven track records as essential criteria for ministerial appointments.

Dr Doro’s nomination is therefore interpreted as a deliberate effort to integrate individuals who combine professional expertise with a passion for national service.

Political analysts have also highlighted the regional significance of the appointment. Coming from Plateau State, Dr Doro’s nomination preserves the North Central region’s representation in the Federal Executive Council, maintaining the delicate balance of inclusivity in Tinubu’s government.

This not only strengthens political harmony but also ensures that diverse perspectives continue to shape federal policies.

As a healthcare expert and legal professional, Dr Doro’s potential impact in government could extend beyond the health sector.

His multidisciplinary background provides him with the analytical skills necessary for evidence-based policy formulation and inter-ministerial collaboration.

Colleagues describe him as a visionary leader who values accountability, innovation, and service excellence.

If confirmed by the Senate, Dr Doro will be expected to bring a global perspective to Nigerian governance.

His international exposure within the UK’s NHS system offers valuable insights that could help reform Nigeria’s healthcare framework and improve service delivery standards.

His experience in digital management systems could also support the government’s push toward e-governance and transparent administration.

The ministerial nomination process now moves to the National Assembly, where senators will evaluate Dr Doro’s credentials, policy positions, and readiness for the task ahead.

The screening process will provide an opportunity for Nigerians to understand his vision for sustainable development and his plans for addressing issues such as healthcare reform, poverty reduction, and youth empowerment.

Reactions from civic groups and commentators have been largely positive. Many view Dr Doro’s nomination as a refreshing departure from politically motivated appointments, instead emphasizing merit and professional competence.

Civil society organizations have commended President Tinubu for recognizing technocrats who can bring global best practices into the public sector.

In Plateau State, news of the nomination has been met with optimism. Local stakeholders see it as a recognition of the state’s contributions to national unity and a chance to deepen its role in policy formulation.

Community leaders have described Dr Doro as a disciplined and community-focused individual who understands the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians and is capable of designing people-centered solutions.

Experts in public administration believe that such appointments could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s governance model.

As the country faces mounting challenges in health, education, and social welfare, incorporating professionals like Dr Doro into key positions could help restore public trust and deliver measurable progress.

His ministerial nomination thus symbolizes a renewed emphasis on excellence and reform-oriented leadership.

Should the Senate grant its approval, Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro will join the Federal Executive Council as one of the technocrats expected to drive innovation, accountability, and growth within the Tinubu administration.

His combination of medical expertise, legal insight, and business acumen reflects a new generation of Nigerian leaders committed to ethical and evidence-based governance.

The ministerial nomination of Dr Doro represents not just a political appointment, but a strategic investment in competence, experience, and integrity.

It embodies President Tinubu’s determination to build a team capable of delivering on the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda and transforming Nigeria’s governance landscape for the better.
