Three suspects have been arrested, and a large cache of explosives recovered during a carefully planned, intelligence-led operation in Daura Local Government Area.
The operation was executed following the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who has emphasized the need for increased vigilance and intelligence-driven patrols across major highways in Nigeria.

The officers intercepted a Volkswagen Golf vehicle at Koza village in Daura during a routine stop-and-search exercise on January 7, 2026.
The vehicle, driven by 40-year-old Jamilu Musa, was thoroughly searched, resulting in the discovery of 6,975 detonators carefully concealed inside.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Musa had received the explosives from an individual identified as Najib, who remains at large.
The materials were reportedly being transported from Kano State to Kwangolam in Mai’adua Local Government Area of Katsina State, highlighting the extensive networks involved in the illegal movement of explosives across state borders.
Further investigations quickly led to the apprehension of two additional suspects, Ibrahim Murtala, 22, and Sulaiman Muhammad, 35.
During searches of their possession, police recovered another 7,500 electric detonators along with 30½ bags of gelatine explosives, weighing a total of 2,273.65 kilograms.
The quantity and nature of the explosives underscore the potentially devastating consequences had these materials fallen into the wrong hands.
The Katsina State Police Command confirmed that the suspects have confessed to the offenses during preliminary questioning.
They are set to be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
