Lagos intensifies security efforts as Governor Sanwo-Olu donates 100 vehicles and equipment, reinforcing agencies and unveiling new security partnerships under a strengthened state initiative.
Lagos State has deepened its commitment to public safety with a significant investment in operational tools and inter-agency support, marking one of its most ambitious moves in recent years.
The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday announced the donation of 100 vehicles and a range of high-grade security gadgets intended to enhance surveillance, mobility, and coordinated response across the metropolis.
The gesture was unveiled at the 19th Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), held in Victoria Island.
The governor’s presentation formed one of the highlights of the event themed “Building Trust, Enhancing Security: A New Era of Security and Partnerships.”
He emphasised that no society could thrive without deliberately strengthening its safety architecture.
According to him, Lagos has adopted a long-term security initiative that recognises safety as a shared responsibility between government, institutions, businesses, and residents.
He encouraged Lagosians not to see security outcomes as solely the duty of authorities but as a collective obligation requiring full civic participation.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the state’s development agenda is inseparable from its security aspirations.
He reiterated that every economic achievement in Lagos depends on an environment where people feel secure, businesses flourish without fear, and criminal networks are unable to operate freely.
In his words, “Every investment we make in security is an investment in peace, order, and prosperity.”
He assured residents that the state government will continue working closely with federal agencies, traditional institutions, local stakeholders, and private donors to advance its broader security initiative.
In addition to the newly donated vehicles and equipment, the governor confirmed that the founder of Premier Lotto Limited (PLL) has pledged to build and donate a new operational facility to LSSTF within one year.
This donation, he noted, will further strengthen the fund’s resource base and improve its long-term capacity to support security formations.
Offering a detailed breakdown of the fund’s performance over the past year, LSSTF Executive Secretary, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, provided an extensive financial and operational report.
He disclosed that the fund spent ₦1,775,543,613.81 on various response efforts, training programmes, and asset support interventions between December 19 of the previous year and the date of the town hall meeting.
These expenditures, he explained, were drawn from the ₦1,848,406,100.00 the fund received as cash support within the same review period.
Ogunsan highlighted that LSSTF also took delivery of 228 vehicles from several contributors.
Out of these, 217 were donated by the Lagos State Government, two were provided by the SNEPCO/Shell Joint Venture, while LSSTF itself procured nine—consisting of seven buses and two 15-ton troop carriers.
All vehicles were fitted with essential communication devices and security gadgets before being deployed to security agencies.
The Executive Secretary said the vehicles were strategically distributed to strengthen mobility, improve rapid response, and increase agency visibility across communities.
Beyond motor assets, LSSTF also provided 1,500 pairs of police boots, 2,000 badges and complete police uniforms, 100 rechargeable flashlights, 100 batteries, and eight drums of SAE 40 lubricant.
A total of 220 police officers also benefitted from specialised training programmes sponsored by the fund.
According to Ogunsan, the agency’s governance structure is designed to ensure accountability and deliver quick responses.
He revealed that LSSTF approves operational requests within 24 hours and maintains a liquidity model that allows it to act swiftly when urgent threats arise.
He noted that public confidence in the fund has grown significantly, prompting an expansion of its retail donation campaign.
Within just four weeks, more than 240 individual donors contributed about N38 million—an achievement he described as an encouraging endorsement of the state’s evolving security initiative.
He added that LSSTF will continue to honour outstanding teamwork and bravery among security personnel.

Providing the official law enforcement assessment for the year, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olukayode Jimoh, delivered a detailed security analysis.
He revealed that during the period under review, 317 armed robbery suspects were apprehended, 141 robbery attempts were successfully foiled, and 115 suspects were prosecuted in court.
He reported that the command handled four kidnap incidents and 23 cult-related cases, arresting 216 individuals and charging 95 of them to court.
Jimoh also disclosed that 76 vehicles were stolen across the state, but 72 were recovered due to improved collaboration and intelligence.
The police documented 142 murder cases, alongside 176 complaints of rape or defilement.
A total of 222 suspects were arrested for these offences, with 200 already charged in court.
Furthermore, the police command apprehended 9,275 “social migrants,” recovered 518 rounds of ammunition and 25 assorted weapons, and impounded thousands of vehicles and motorcycles for various violations.
He insisted that Lagos remains safe despite the challenges confronting a megacity. He explained that the police have increased surveillance, deployed more tactical units, and strengthened community partnerships to ensure a peaceful festive season.
The Commissioner emphasised that the renewed inter-agency collaboration—largely supported by the ongoing security initiative—is producing measurable results.
The event concluded with strong calls for residents to maintain vigilance, cooperate with security personnel, report suspicious activities promptly, and support the government’s multi-layered security initiative aimed at building a safer, more resilient Lagos.
