Kwara debate team clinches top prize at 2025 Asia Parliamentary International Debate, showcasing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s education investment success.
The Kwara debate team has made history once again by emerging victorious at the 2025 Asia Parliamentary International Debate Competition, held at HELP University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This triumph signals the rising global recognition of Nigeria’s educational talent, particularly among junior secondary students nurtured under the guidance of Kwara SUBEB.
The competition brought together 16 countries from Asia, Africa, and Europe, each vying for excellence in debating skills, critical thinking, and intellectual creativity.
After a series of rigorous preliminary rounds, the Nigerian delegation faced Team Cambodia in a high-stakes final.
With exceptional composure, eloquence, and strategic argumentation, the Kwara debate team triumphed, securing the overall championship title in the junior secondary school category.
Professor Sheu Adaramaja, Chairman of Kwara SUBEB, lauded the students’ achievement as a testament to their brilliance, dedication, and resilience.
He highlighted that this milestone reflects the state government’s continuous investment in basic education under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to him, “The outstanding performance of our students demonstrates how strategic educational policies and consistent support can translate into tangible international success.”
This landmark victory represents a historic first for Kwara State at an international debate championship.
While the state has enjoyed multiple national-level successes, including victories at the Presidential School Debate in 2021, 2023, and 2024, this international recognition positions Kwara as a leading contributor to global intellectual and academic competitions.
The junior secondary students have once again proven that rigorous training, mentorship, and dedication yield remarkable results on the world stage.
The Chairman also recalled the team’s impressive participation at the World School Debate Championship in Singapore in May 2024, where they reached the quarter-finals.
“That experience prepared them for higher challenges, and the current victory is a reflection of their growth, skill, and confidence,” Adaramaja noted.
He emphasized that the students’ success is also an expression of gratitude for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision in elevating educational standards and opportunities across the state.
The triumph in Malaysia is a source of immense pride, not only for the students but for the entire state of Kwara and Nigeria at large. It underscores the country’s ability to compete and excel on international academic platforms.

Looking ahead, the Kwara State Government has approved the team’s participation in the 2025 edition of the Presidential School Debate of Nigeria, scheduled to hold from December 14–18 in Abuja.
Hosted by the Federal Ministry of Education, this event will further consolidate the global academic success of Kwara students and provide additional opportunities to demonstrate the intellectual capacity fostered by the state’s investment in education.
