Osun woos Chinese investors to boost free trade zone development

Osun woos Chinese investors: New investments promise jobs and industrial growth

Osun State is stepping up efforts to attract foreign investments, as Governor Ademola Adeleke reassured a delegation of Chinese investors that his administration is committed to facilitating business operations within the state’s Free Trade Zone and other industrial hubs.

The move is part of a broader strategy to position Osun as a leading investment destination in southwestern Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit at the Government House in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke highlighted the state’s high ranking on ease of doing business and the multiple investment opportunities available across sectors.

He emphasized that Osun’s infrastructure development projects, ranging from roads and bridges to utilities, schools, and health facilities, are creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

“Good infrastructure facilitates economic growth. We are bridging gaps in our roads, schools, and health facilities to ensure investors find the state welcoming,” Adeleke said.

“Our tax regime has been harmonized and automated, reducing the burden on businesses. Certificates of occupancy are now issued within 48 hours under our automated system. Investors can expect top-level support from our Ministry of Commerce and Industry.”

Chinese Delegation Highlights Investment Interest

Representing Shanghai Fadewei International Trade Company Limited, Dr. Yusuf Fadairo, explained that the delegation chose Osun due to the state’s strong governance record and reports of effective administration under Governor Adeleke.

“We have reviewed the Free Trade Zone and are satisfied with the utilities and facilities. We are ready to commence operations once regulatory approvals are completed,” Fadairo stated.

The visiting team included specialists in various sectors, including amusement park operations, paint production, electric tricycles, and logistics, signaling a diversified investment interest that could stimulate multiple industries in Osun.

Members of the state government, including the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, and Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, welcomed the delegation.

Osun Free Trade Zone: Opportunities for Growth

The Free Trade Zone in Osun has been designed to attract both local and foreign investors.

The state has actively promoted industrial hubs where companies can leverage incentives, reduced bureaucracy, and robust infrastructure.

Governor Adeleke emphasized that the state’s policies are investor-friendly, with streamlined processes for business registration, land acquisition, and tax compliance.

The arrival of Chinese investors follows similar engagements with companies from Turkey and the United Kingdom, demonstrating a growing international interest in Osun’s industrial landscape.

Commissioner Bunmi Jenyo had earlier revealed plans for a Turkish furniture company to begin production, reinforcing the state’s commitment to creating jobs and providing markets for locally available raw materials.

Economic and Employment Implications

Analysts suggest that foreign investments in Osun’s Free Trade Zone could have a multiplier effect on the local economy.

Beyond job creation, these ventures are expected to boost technology transfer, enhance local manufacturing capabilities, and foster skills development for residents.

The collaboration between foreign investors and local entrepreneurs could also lead to improved production efficiency and competitiveness.

Jenyo encouraged local businesses to seize opportunities created by incoming foreign investments.

He assured them that government policies would continue to stimulate growth, facilitate industrial expansion, and secure access to both domestic and export markets.

The synergy between international and local investors is projected to strengthen Osun’s industrial ecosystem, contributing to broader economic development in the region.

State Government’s Commitment to Investment

Governor Adeleke reiterated that Osun remains open to investors seeking long-term partnerships. “Our administration is focused on creating a business-friendly environment that supports industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable development,” he said.

He also noted that the state continues to invest in utilities, transportation infrastructure, and social amenities to support industrial and commercial activities.

The engagement with Chinese investors signals a strategic shift toward diversifying investment sources and attracting global partners.

The state government’s proactive approach, including regulatory reforms, infrastructure upgrades, and policy incentives, is positioning Osun as a competitive hub for manufacturing and trade in West Africa.

With the arrival of foreign investors and ongoing infrastructure improvements, Osun State is poised to become a key player in Nigeria’s industrial landscape.

The successful establishment of companies in the Free Trade Zone is expected to generate employment, stimulate local production, and enhance the state’s economic profile.

Governor Adeleke’s administration remains committed to sustaining investor confidence, ensuring transparency, and delivering tangible results for both international partners and the local population.
