Political tensions are intensifying in Osun State as Governor Ademola Adeleke and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) exchange sharp criticisms over his bid for re-election in the upcoming August 15 governorship poll.
The disagreement centers on issues of fairness, governance, and accountability, with both sides presenting conflicting claims about the state’s development record and the equitable distribution of resources.
The APC has accused Governor Adeleke of mismanaging state finances and allegedly favoring his hometown in recent teacher recruitment exercises.
According to a statement released by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, of the 876 teachers recruited under the current administration, 88 slots were allocated solely to Ede, while other towns received significantly fewer positions.

The party also noted that of the 38 education officers recruited, six were assigned to Ede, highlighting what it described as disproportionate allocations across local government areas.
The APC maintains that such actions show a lack of fairness and equitable governance in the state.
Responding to the allegations, Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, highlighted his administration’s achievements and argued that he deserves a second term.
The governor emphasized that his government has made significant progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and workers’ welfare, all aimed at improving the quality of life for residents across Osun State.
Among the key achievements cited by Adeleke is the state’s improved performance in national examinations, where Osun State rose from 33rd to 7th position.
This, the governor argued, reflects a deliberate focus on improving educational standards and ensuring that schools across the state are well-equipped for learning.
In addition, his administration has rehabilitated approximately 150 schools and supported the development of educational institutions, including major projects at Osun State University.
These projects include securing final national medical accreditation and backing the establishment of the University of Ilesa.
The governor also noted that his administration reconstructed over 200 health centres, equipping them with solar energy and clean water facilities to enhance healthcare delivery.
According to Adeleke, these projects were implemented with strict adherence to procurement regulations and financial accountability measures, ensuring that state resources are deployed efficiently and transparently.
Governor Adeleke further emphasized that his government’s approach is inclusive and aimed at sustainable development across all sectors.
He insisted that infrastructure projects are allocated equitably across local government areas, countering APC’s claims of favoritism.
“Our administration’s priority is to ensure that every community benefits from development projects, whether in education, healthcare, or road construction,” Rasheed said in a statement.
Political analysts have described the current tension as part of the broader pre-election dynamics in Osun State.
They note that while opposition parties, including the APC, are seeking to highlight alleged flaws in the government, Adeleke’s administration is leveraging tangible achievements to strengthen its re-election bid.
Observers suggest that the contest is shaping up as a referendum on governance quality, service delivery, and accountability.
The controversy over teacher recruitment has sparked debates among residents and education stakeholders.
Some argue that equitable distribution of employment opportunities is essential for social cohesion and public trust, while others believe the administration’s track record in education improvement outweighs isolated concerns.
The governor’s office maintains that recruitment processes were conducted transparently and in compliance with relevant laws, with meritocracy guiding selections.
In addition to education and healthcare, Adeleke’s administration has focused on other sectors of the economy.
Investments in rural roads, electricity provision, and community facilities have been highlighted as evidence of a government committed to holistic development.
The governor maintains that his administration’s policies are forward-looking and designed to ensure sustainable growth and improved living standards for all residents of Osun State.
As the August 15 election approaches, the debate between the APC and Governor Adeleke is likely to intensify.
While the opposition continues to question his qualifications and governance style, the incumbent administration is reinforcing its message of inclusive leadership, transparency, and equitable distribution of state resources.
With both sides presenting strong arguments, voters in Osun State are expected to carefully weigh the achievements and criticisms of the sitting government before casting their ballots.
