Liverpool make fresh contact for £60m Lamine Camara deal after Felix Nmecha setback

Liverpool have reportedly renewed their interest in Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as they explore a potential £60 million transfer, following a setback in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha ahead of the January transfer window.

The Reds are looking to strengthen their midfield options after selling Curtis Jones to Inter Milan for £30 million during the summer. Uncertainty surrounding Alexis Mac Allister’s future has also increased the urgency to identify potential replacements.

Liverpool are competing with Chelsea for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Senegal international Camara, who plays for Monaco in Ligue 1. However, Dortmund’s reluctance to sell Nmecha has reportedly forced Liverpool to consider alternative targets more seriously.

Liverpool Renew Interest in Lamine Camara

Liverpool have reportedly made fresh contact with Camara’s representatives as they step up their interest in the 22-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

According to a report by The Sun, the Premier League club have asked to be kept informed of developments surrounding the Senegal international, with discussions continuing behind the scenes.

The report states: “Liverpool are looking to strengthen their midfield with a player of Camara’s profile, and the 22-year-old has emerged as an attractive option.”

The renewed contact suggests Liverpool are continuing to assess their options as they seek a midfielder capable of improving their squad for the second half of the season.

Camara has attracted considerable interest following his performances for Monaco, and Liverpool are understood to view him as a potential addition to their midfield rebuild.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg previously reported that Camara, Scott and Nmecha were all included on Liverpool’s midfield shortlist.

Monaco Demand £60m for Senegal International

Liverpool’s pursuit of Camara could prove expensive, with Monaco reportedly valuing the midfielder at £60 million.

The Ligue 1 side are understood to have set that asking price after the player came close to joining Chelsea during the final hours of the previous transfer deadline.

Camara was reportedly on the verge of completing a £47 million move to Stamford Bridge before the proposed transfer collapsed at the last moment.

Chelsea’s interest has added another complication for Liverpool, who must compete with their Premier League rivals if they decide to pursue the Senegalese midfielder.

Although no completed agreement has been reported, Liverpool’s renewed contact with Camara’s representatives indicates that the club are keeping the possibility of a January move under consideration.

A transfer at Monaco’s reported valuation would represent a significant investment as Liverpool seek to reinforce their midfield options.

Felix Nmecha Transfer Becomes More Difficult

Liverpool’s interest in Camara has intensified amid growing difficulties in their pursuit of Nmecha.

The Reds and Manchester United are reportedly keen to bring the former Manchester City academy midfielder back to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund.

However, Dortmund have decided they want to retain the Germany international during the January transfer window, making a winter move difficult to complete.

According to TEAMtalk, Dortmund have quoted interested clubs a substantial €100 million, equivalent to approximately £84 million, for the midfielder.

The reported valuation presents a significant obstacle for Liverpool, particularly as the club seek to strengthen their squad before the second half of the season.

Nmecha’s contract reportedly contains an €80 million release clause, worth approximately £67 million, which becomes active next summer.

That clause could provide a clearer route to signing the midfielder at a lower price than Dortmund’s reported January demand, but Liverpool are understood to want reinforcements before the end of the current campaign.

The uncertainty surrounding Nmecha’s availability has therefore increased the importance of Liverpool’s alternative targets.

Alex Scott Also on Liverpool’s Midfield Shortlist

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott remains another option under consideration as Liverpool assess possible additions.

The England midfielder has attracted interest from leading Premier League clubs, with Liverpool and Chelsea reportedly competing for his signature.

Scott’s inclusion alongside Camara and Nmecha on Liverpool’s shortlist highlights the club’s efforts to identify several possible solutions rather than rely on a single transfer target.

Liverpool’s recruitment strategy could depend on the availability, asking price and contractual circumstances of each player when the January window opens.

With Chelsea also pursuing midfield reinforcements, the competition for preferred targets could become increasingly intense.

Liverpool must also consider whether their eventual signing would fit the club’s tactical requirements and provide sufficient quality to justify the financial commitment.

Alexis Mac Allister’s Future Raises Further Questions

Liverpool’s midfield plans have been complicated by uncertainty surrounding Mac Allister’s long-term future at Anfield.

The Argentina international has reportedly not been offered a new contract, raising questions about his position in the club’s plans beyond the current season.

Sky Sport journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that Liverpool are considering a new direction regarding Mac Allister in 2027, with a potential departure becoming a realistic possibility.

According to the report, a new contract for the midfielder is currently not on the agenda.

Mac Allister previously expressed disappointment after failing to receive fresh terms during the summer, saying in September that he was “very sad” about the situation.

The World Cup winner has also been linked with clubs including Manchester City and Real Madrid.

If Liverpool decide to sell Mac Allister next year, the club could face the task of replacing another important midfield player while continuing to rebuild the department.

That possibility makes the pursuit of players such as Camara, Scott and Nmecha particularly significant as Liverpool plan for both the immediate future and the longer term.

January Transfer Window Could Shape Liverpool’s Midfield Rebuild

Liverpool’s reported interest in Camara reflects the challenges facing the club as they search for midfield reinforcements.

The departure of Curtis Jones, uncertainty over Mac Allister and Dortmund’s resistance to selling Nmecha have combined to create several questions for the club’s recruitment team.

Lamine Camara offers a potential alternative, but Monaco’s reported £60 million valuation and Chelsea’s competing interest could complicate negotiations.

Scott also remains on the shortlist, while Nmecha could become a more realistic option next summer if his reported release clause becomes active.

Liverpool’s final decision is likely to depend on transfer costs, availability and the club’s assessment of which player would best strengthen the squad.

For now, the renewed contact with Camara’s representatives suggests that Liverpool are continuing to explore their options as they prepare for the January transfer window.
