The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to explain how the Federal Government intends to tackle hunger, rising living costs, unemployment and insecurity, insisting that the ruling party must accept responsibility for the country’s current challenges.
The opposition party argued that Nigerians needed practical policies capable of improving their living conditions rather than political arguments over the performance of previous administrations.
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, expressed the party’s position in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, October 26, following comments attributed to APC Publicity Secretary Felix Morka and President Bola Tinubu concerning the country’s economic situation.
Mohammed said the PDP had taken note of Morka’s remarks during a television programme, where he reportedly blamed the opposition party for the hunger and economic hardship confronting Nigerians.
He also referred to similar comments reportedly made by Tinubu in Kaduna during the flag-off of his 2027 re-election campaign.
According to the PDP spokesman, the comments appeared to shift public attention away from the responsibility of the current administration to address the difficulties facing citizens.
He maintained that the government should concentrate on developing sustainable solutions instead of repeatedly referring to the years the PDP spent in power.
“Our message to the APC is simple: stop the blame game and start taking responsibility. Nigerians deserve solutions, not excuses,” Mohammed said.
PDP lists economic challenges facing Nigerians
The opposition party said the Federal Government should explain the measures it was implementing to make essential commodities affordable and improve the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians.
Mohammed specifically challenged the APC to outline its plans for reducing food prices, supporting farmers and strengthening domestic agricultural production.
He argued that food security should remain a priority, particularly as households continue to face pressure from the cost of meeting their basic needs.
The PDP spokesman also called for clearer explanations of the government’s strategies for tackling unemployment, improving electricity supply, reducing transportation costs and addressing insecurity.
He said these issues required deliberate policy decisions and measurable results rather than political exchanges between the ruling party and opposition groups.
Mohammed added that the government needed to demonstrate how its economic policies would translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
He maintained that Nigerians deserved to understand what steps were being taken to create jobs, support businesses, improve agricultural output and establish conditions that would encourage economic stability.
The PDP said the government’s performance should be assessed by the results of its policies and their impact on the daily lives of citizens.

Opposition rejects attempts to blame previous administrations
Mohammed acknowledged that the Tinubu administration might have recorded some achievements, where applicable, but insisted that recognising such accomplishments should not prevent Nigerians from questioning government policies.
He said the PDP would not accept attempts to use its 16 years in power as a blanket justification for the economic difficulties currently facing the country.
According to him, acknowledging genuine progress made by the APC does not amount to endorsing every government decision or accepting responsibility for present-day challenges.
The opposition spokesman argued that historical circumstances could help explain some of Nigeria’s longstanding problems, but should not become an excuse for avoiding accountability.
He said every administration should be assessed according to its own decisions, achievements and ability to improve the welfare of the population.
“After more than 10 years of APC in office, Nigerians deserve answers, not excuses,” Mohammed said.
He urged the ruling party to explain what it had accomplished since assuming power and identify the specific measures being taken to address the country’s economic difficulties.
The PDP maintained that citizens needed evidence of progress rather than repeated references to the record of previous governments.
PDP says government must account for its performance
The opposition party further argued that Nigeria’s economic challenges could not be resolved through continued exchanges of accusations between political parties.
Mohammed said that although the country’s historical circumstances might provide context for understanding its present situation, the government in power remained responsible for responding to the needs of its citizens.
He stressed that the quality of governance should be measured by policies, achievements and improvements in living standards.
According to him, the government’s priorities should include affordable food, economic stability, improved security and access to better opportunities.
The PDP spokesman also maintained that citizens had personal experiences of living conditions and security under previous PDP-led administrations, which they could compare with their current circumstances.
He said Nigerians were more concerned about practical solutions to their difficulties than prolonged political disagreements.
“Nigerians remember the standard of living and the security situation under previous PDP administrations.
“Today, citizens are demanding practical solutions, affordable food, economic stability, and improved security, not endless political arguments and blame shifting,” he said.
PDP expresses confidence in Nigerians’ judgment
Mohammed said the PDP remained confident that Nigerians would evaluate political parties based on their records, policy proposals and commitment to public welfare.
He maintained that the desire for better governance, improved living conditions and a more secure country remained central to the national political debate.
The party argued that the APC should demonstrate how its policies were addressing the needs of households and businesses rather than continually drawing the opposition into arguments over its years in government.
Mohammed also called for a credible approach to economic recovery, stressing the importance of policies that could provide lasting relief and strengthen the country’s prospects for growth.
He said the government needed to show a clear commitment to improving citizens’ welfare through practical and sustainable measures.
The PDP concluded that political parties should be judged by their actions and ability to respond to the country’s challenges, maintaining that Nigerians expected accountable leadership and meaningful improvements in their standard of living.
