NNPC Limited Strengthens Role in Regional Energy with African Energy Week 2025 Partnership

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, September 19, 2025 – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to Africa’s energy transformation by announcing a strategic partnership with African Energy Week (AEW) 2025: Invest in African Energies, set to take place in Cape Town from September 29 to October 3.

Through this collaboration, NNPC Limited strengthens role in regional energy with African Energy Week, highlighting its leadership in advancing regional cooperation, infrastructure expansion, and long-term investment attraction.

NNPC Limited is championing the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP), a transformative infrastructure initiative that connects Nigeria’s abundant gas reserves to West African markets, Mauritania, Morocco, and onward to Europe.

The project, developed in partnership with Morocco, Mauritania, and 13 ECOWAS member states, underscores Nigeria’s ambition to enhance intra-African energy trade while positioning the continent as a reliable supplier of natural gas to international markets.

“NNPC Limited strengthens role in regional energy with African Energy Week through strategic projects like the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline, which will integrate regional markets and ensure Africa becomes a critical player in global gas supply,” said an NNPC Limited spokesperson.

In addition to regional integration, NNPC Limited is advancing Nigeria’s upstream sector.

The company recently signed a landmark production sharing contract (PSC) for petroleum prospecting licenses 2000 and 2001 with the TotalEnergies-Sapetro Consortium.

This agreement – the first PSC in Nigeria to cover both crude and natural gas comprehensively – aligns with the Petroleum Industry Act, attracting new investments and ensuring responsible hydrocarbon development.

On the domestic front, NNPC Limited has deepened its collaboration with Dangote Oil Refinery to strengthen refining capacity. Between December 2023 and September 2025, over 112 million barrels of crude oil were allocated to the refinery.

A new two-year crude-for-Naira supply agreement will ensure consistent feedstock, reduce foreign exchange pressures, and secure Nigeria’s refining independence.

“Through partnerships with both regional and domestic stakeholders, NNPC Limited strengthens role in regional energy with African Energy Week while also enhancing national energy security.

These initiatives reflect our broader vision for a sustainable and resilient African energy sector,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.

Looking forward, NNPC Limited is targeting $60 billion in investments by 2030, with a focus on upstream expansion, refinery sustainability, and gas infrastructure projects such as the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline.

Progress on new deepwater exploration, refinery upgrades, and regional integration projects reinforce the company’s leadership in shaping Africa’s energy future.

“NNPC Limited’s ongoing reforms and strategic initiatives highlight a decisive shift towards transparency, investment attraction, and long-term energy security.

The company is positioning Nigeria as a cornerstone of Africa’s energy future,” Ayuk added.
