SANDTON, South Africa, September 18, 2025 – The African Energy Chamber (AEC) today marks the fifth anniversary of African Energy Week (AEW), a platform that has become synonymous with Africa-led energy solutions, multi-billion-dollar deals, and policy innovation.

Under the leadership of Executive Chairman NJ Ayuk, AEW has grown from a modest inaugural conference in 2021 into the continent’s premier energy investment platform, drawing thousands of delegates, ministers, and international executives annually.
“Celebrating this symbolic fifth year, AEW is the heartbeat of Africa’s energy ambitions,” said NJ Ayuk.
“From 1,700 delegates at our debut to nearly 7,000 in 2024, AEW has catalyzed deals, shaped policy, and intensified regional collaboration.”
A Continental Energy Movement
Born out of a need to bring Africa’s energy discussions back to the continent, African Energy Week was conceived to counter the trend of major energy conferences relocating to international venues such as Houston, Dubai, and London.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the urgency to retain Africa’s energy dialogue on African soil became even more critical.
“AEW proved that Africa is capable of hosting world-class energy conferences,” Ayuk emphasized.
“The continent deserves not only to be part of the global energy conversation but to drive it.”
Over five years, AEW has facilitated transformative outcomes: multi-billion-dollar deals, institutionalized platforms like the African Farmout Forum and Deal Room, and shaped continental energy policy dialogue.
Initiatives such as the African Green Energy Initiative and the Just Energy Transition Concert have amplified green energy investment and inclusive engagement.
Driving Investment and Capital Mobilization
African Energy Week has been pivotal in attracting both institutional and cross-border financing.
For example, Afreximbank channeled over $120 million in 2024, while cross-border projects such as hydrogen exploration in The Gambia and gas facility funding in Nigeria demonstrate the tangible impact of AEW’s convening power.
“This is where deals happen and barriers fall,” said Ayuk.
“We’ve built Africa’s prime energy forum, where governments, national oil companies, investors, and technology providers converge to mobilize capital and accelerate projects.”
Political Will and Sector Reform
Behind the conference, ministers and heads of state acknowledge both urgency and opportunity.
Policies such as Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Act, South Africa’s new petroleum company, and the Republic of Congo’s Gas Master Plan demonstrate Africa’s commitment to regulatory reform and sector growth.
AEW has provided a platform to translate these declarations into actionable partnerships, policy alignment, and capital flow.
Looking Ahead to AEW 2025
The upcoming AEW 2025 edition promises expanded content and impact. Highlights include:
Big-5 Premium Content Stages
African Farmout Forum and Deal Room
G20 Energy Leaders Roundtable
OPEC-Africa Roundtable
COP30 positioning sessions
Country spotlight forums for nations including Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, and Namibia
African Energy Awards and the Just Energy Transition Concert
With Africa’s oil and gas capital expenditure rising to $47 billion in 2024—a 23% year-on-year increase—and the launch of the $5 billion African Energy Bank, AEW is at the center of a new era of African-led energy financing.
Shaping Africa’s Energy Narrative
Through AEW, Africa is reshaping its global energy narrative. Investors now recognize the continent as a frontier of high-growth opportunity across oil, gas, and renewables.

AEW counters outdated tropes about instability and governance challenges by delivering real deals, ministerial validation, and tangible results.
“Our mission is clear,” Ayuk stated. “Africa must emerge as a global energy powerhouse, leveraging oil, gas, and renewables to power inclusive industrialization, growth, and energy justice. AEW is central to making that vision a reality.”
