Lagos retirees welfare celebrated with over N1 billion in retirement bonds, ensuring secure post-service life and seamless transition for public servants.
The Lagos State Government has once again highlighted its commitment to the Lagos retirees welfare by celebrating the 111th batch of retirees with the presentation of Retirement Bond Certificates totaling over N1 billion.
The event, held at NECA House, Alausa, demonstrates the State’s dedication to honoring public servants and ensuring they enjoy a secure and fulfilling post-service life.
Representing the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, the Director of the Post-Service Department, Mrs. Bukola Durodola, advised retirees to invest prudently and take advantage of post-service empowerment and wellness programs offered by the State.
“These initiatives are designed to support your financial security and overall well-being after years of dedicated service,” she emphasized, reinforcing the government’s focus on Lagos retirees welfare.

Mr. Agoro commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving N1.003 billion for the payment of accrued pension rights to 465 retirees across the State’s civil service, local government authorities, SUBEB, TESCOM, and various parastatals.
He noted that the Governor’s action reflects genuine compassion and a commitment to ensuring that those who served Lagos faithfully are not overlooked.
“The pension benefits provided are meant to sustain you during retirement, and the State is committed to maintaining transparent and reliable processes for the disbursement of these benefits,” Agoro said.
He further praised Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) and the Governor for their consistent and efficient administration of pensions, a critical component of Lagos retirees welfare.
In his welcome address, LASPEC Director-General, Mr. Babalola Obilana, expressed gratitude to the State Government for consistently prioritizing worker welfare, even amid challenging economic times.
He noted that Lagos has set a national standard in pension administration by ensuring prompt and transparent disbursement of retirement benefits.
Obilana also highlighted LASPEC’s use of automation, data management, and collaboration with Pension Fund Administrators to improve transparency and efficiency.
“Our goal is to make sure that no public servant who served Lagos leaves without receiving what is due to them,” he said.
He encouraged retirees to remain active, invest wisely, and embrace a rewarding post-service life, reinforcing the State’s commitment to Lagos retirees welfare.
The Executive Director of LASPEC, Mr. Olumuyiwa Oshin, urged retirees to “refire, not retire,” emphasizing that retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter with opportunities for personal growth and community service.
“Retirement is not the end, but a transition into a life of fulfillment and continued contribution,” he said.
LASPEC has also proactively prepared over 1,000 public servants for retirement through the 29th Retirement Benefit Documentation Seminar.
The seminar provided detailed guidance and comprehensive support to ensure a smooth transition into retirement. This initiative underscores Lagos State’s dedication to ensuring seamless processes for retirees, a key aspect of Lagos retirees welfare.
Speaking at the seminar, Head of Service Mr. Agoro explained that this is the third Retirement Benefit Documentation Seminar organized by LASPEC this year.
“Consistency in preparing retirees demonstrates the importance the State places on a smooth documentation process. We want to ensure every retiring officer receives their benefits efficiently and without delays,” he said.
Agoro reassured prospective retirees that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration remains committed to their welfare even after leaving active service.
“This program is designed to provide detailed guidance and comprehensive support to retiring officers, ensuring they transition effortlessly into the next phase of life. It is essential that participants engage actively, ask questions, and take advantage of this opportunity,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the immense contributions of retirees. “The Lagos State Government appreciates your selfless service, dedication, and sacrifices. Your expertise and institutional knowledge have strengthened our public service. In recognition, LASPEC is committed to ensuring timely processing and disbursement of your retirement benefits,” Agoro affirmed.
Beyond financial support, Lagos State offers retirees empowerment initiatives, wellness programs, and opportunities for social engagement.
These measures ensure that retirees remain productive, active, and secure, reflecting a comprehensive approach to Lagos retirees welfare.
By combining financial recognition with post-service empowerment, Lagos State continues to set a benchmark for public service welfare in Nigeria. Retirees are not only celebrated but also equipped with the tools and knowledge to navigate life after service successfully.
The 111th batch of retirees now joins a growing community of former public servants who can enjoy their well-earned retirement with confidence, knowing their service has been valued and their welfare guaranteed.
Through these initiatives, Lagos State demonstrates that the commitment to employee well-being does not end at retirement.
The Lagos State Government’s efforts toward Lagos retirees welfare—including retirement bonds, empowerment programs, and efficient pension administration—reflect a holistic approach to public service.
By ensuring retirees are recognized, supported, and empowered, the State continues to safeguard their dignity, security, and post-service fulfillment.
