A bandit attack killed a woman and abducted three others in Yankamaye village, highlighting rising insecurity in Kano State.
A deadly bandit attack struck Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Saturday night, November 29, 2025, leaving a woman dead and three others abducted.
The assailants launched the raid at around 11:00 p.m., when most villagers had retired to bed.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits parked their motorcycles on the outskirts of Yankamaye and entered the village on foot to avoid detection.
During the attack, an elderly woman was shot after pleading with the armed men to spare her son.
“They killed an old woman because she begged them not to take her son. However, they shot her and went away with the son,” a resident who requested anonymity told Daily Nigerian.
The attackers also raided another house in Yankamaye, abducting two women, including the sister-in-law of the ward councillor.
One of the abducted men, whose mother was killed, has been identified as Aminu Mahd Ala. Aminu had previously posted online criticizing those politicizing Kano State’s security challenges.
“This was his post, and a few hours later, kidnappers came to his house, took him away, killed his mother,” Nuradeen Rabiu, a local source, stated.
This Kano bandit attack is part of a growing pattern of insecurity in the region. Yankamaye village, located about 5 kilometers from Rimaye town in neighboring Katsina State, has frequently been targeted after neighboring communities signed so-called “peace accords” with bandits.
Villages such as Sundu and Buresawa in Kano State have also suffered similar raids, with at least eight people abducted in a late-night attack on Buresawa earlier this week.
Hon. Sani Bala Tsanyawa, the lawmaker representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, confirmed the incident on his official Facebook page.
“Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. We are just receiving reports that bandits have attacked the old town of Yankamaye in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, where they killed one person and abducted three others,” he wrote.
The Kano State Police Command has deployed personnel to rescue the victims. Spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the attack, stating, “We have received reports of the attack, and personnel have been deployed to ensure the rescue of the victims.”
Security agencies in Kano State are urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
This latest Kano bandit attack underscores the persistent threat posed by armed groups in northern Nigeria.
Analysts say the rising frequency of such incidents in Kano State highlights weaknesses in local security enforcement and the urgent need for coordinated measures to protect vulnerable communities.
Residents of Yankamaye and neighboring areas continue to live in fear, with many families restricting movement after sunset.
Community leaders have called on both state and federal authorities to intensify patrols and provide rapid response teams to prevent further kidnappings and killings.
Experts warn that unless immediate action is taken, Kano State may see more villages targeted by armed bandits, similar to what has been reported in Yankamaye.
The ongoing insecurity threatens not only the safety of residents but also economic activities and social cohesion in the region.
