Akwa Ibom security received a major boost as Governor Umo Eno praised Tinubu’s strategy, donated ₦140m to troops, and unveiled widows’ empowerment plans.
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to national peace and stability, applauding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as decisive and results-driven leadership in tackling Nigeria’s lingering security challenges.
According to the governor, sustained federal investment and coordination have begun to restore confidence, unity, and harmony across different regions of the country.
The governor made these remarks during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held in Uyo, where military officers, veterans, widows of fallen heroes, and top government officials gathered to honour the sacrifices of Nigeria’s armed forces.
The event provided an opportunity for reflection on the cost of national unity and the importance of strengthening Akwa Ibom security through collaboration between federal and state authorities.
Governor Eno noted that the renewed focus on intelligence gathering, military welfare, and inter-agency cooperation under President Tinubu has significantly reduced threats posed by insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities.
He stressed that peace remains a critical foundation for economic growth, social development, and national cohesion.
In a major demonstration of support for security personnel, the Akwa Ibom State Government announced the release of ₦120 million as immediate financial assistance for serving officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The donation, described as a morale booster, is aimed at encouraging frontline personnel who continue to risk their lives in defence of the nation.
Beyond active service members, Governor Eno also approved an additional ₦20 million for the Nigerian Legion, representing ex-servicemen who previously served the country.
He acknowledged that many veterans still bear the physical and emotional scars of war, while others paid the ultimate price in the struggle to keep Nigeria united.
The governor emphasised that strengthening Akwa Ibom security goes beyond financial gestures and must include long-term welfare support for families left behind by fallen officers.
To this end, he unveiled a comprehensive economic empowerment programme targeted at widows of deceased military, police, and paramilitary personnel.
Under the initiative, the state government will construct 150 lock-up shops across strategic locations and allocate them to beneficiaries.
Each allottee will also receive take-off grants to help establish small-scale businesses, ensuring steady income and sustainable livelihoods rather than short-lived assistance.
Governor Eno explained that the empowerment scheme was designed to restore dignity and self-reliance to widows who have borne the heavy burden of national sacrifice.
He added that true remembrance involves not just ceremonies, but deliberate policies that improve the lives of those affected by conflict and insecurity.
While commending President Tinubu’s leadership, the governor called on officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces to continue standing firmly behind the Commander-in-Chief in the ongoing battle against insecurity.
He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration would eventually bring an end to violent threats confronting the nation.
Addressing security personnel serving in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Eno described them as gallant patriots whose professionalism and discipline have helped maintain peace within the state.
He assured them that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare as part of broader efforts to consolidate Akwa Ibom security.
The governor further noted that a peaceful environment remains essential for attracting investment, boosting tourism, and creating employment opportunities for young people.
According to him, no meaningful development can thrive in the absence of security, which is why his government considers support for security agencies a strategic investment rather than a mere obligation.
As the ceremony concluded, Governor Eno reiterated his commitment to peace, unity, and inclusive governance.
He pledged that Akwa Ibom State would remain a reliable partner to the Federal Government and security agencies in the collective mission to safeguard lives and property.
