Edo APC leaders officially back President Tinubu re-election 2027, welcoming decampees and boosting party unity for the upcoming general election.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, over the weekend led a coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders to formally endorse President Tinubu re-election in 2027.
The high-profile event, held in Edo Central, brought together key political figures and highlighted the APC’s unity and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Governor Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, confirmed the significance of the endorsement, noting the attendance of the Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa; former Governor and Senator Adams Oshiomhole; and the Minister for Regional Development, Hon. Abubakar Momoh.
The occasion also featured the formal reception of prominent decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) into the APC, further strengthening party unity and cohesion.
Other notable attendees included the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; former Deputy Governor, Chief Pius Odubu; Senator Mathew Urhoghide; Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; APC State Chairman Jarret Tenebe; and Edo Central senatorial leader, Major-General Cecil Isegaigbe (rtd.).
Their presence underscored the strong backing of President Tinubu re-election across key political and social leaders in Edo State.
Addressing party supporters, Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support of Edo State, particularly in infrastructure development.
He said: “I want to thank Mr. President for what he’s doing for the Edo people. When I went to Abuja to discuss road infrastructure, the Minister of Works personally inspected the projects.
“Now, the Agbor Road, among others, has been approved, and in a few weeks, you’ll see caterpillars working. The president is not here to campaign because we have already done the campaign.”
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to staying connected to his roots and prioritizing service to the people even after his tenure. This reflects a leadership style aligned with President Tinubu re-election priorities—sustainable development and grassroots empowerment.
Former Governor and Senator Adams Oshiomhole praised both President Tinubu and Governor Okpebholo for fostering stability and development.
Oshiomhole stated: “One of the things the governor always reminds us is that he is not borrowing to execute projects. If the President had not created a transparent financial environment, many initiatives could have failed. A good driver must be retained; constant change risks collapse.”
Minister for Regional Development, Hon. Abubakar Momoh, described President Tinubu’s administration as among the most reform-driven in Nigeria’s history.
He said: “No administration since independence has implemented reforms as impactful as President Tinubu’s. These initiatives will put Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and development.”
Following the speeches, Major-General Cecil Isegaigbe (rtd.) moved the motion to formally adopt President Tinubu as the APC’s preferred candidate for 2027.
The motion was seconded by Hon. Joe Ikpea, Senator representing Edo Central, and unanimously adopted by Senator Oshiomhole and other leaders. This marked a strong show of party solidarity in support of President Tinubu re-election.
To strengthen campaign mobilisation, four campaign buses were donated through the Office of the Special Adviser on Youths to coordinators from Edo North, Edo Central, and Edo South.
This will enhance grassroots engagement and ensure active participation in the President Tinubu re-election campaign across the state.
The event also marked the formal reception of new members from the PDP and LP, including Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa, Hon. Patrick Iluobe, Ehime Edangbe, and Hon. Anthony Iselobho.
These decampees pledged loyalty to the APC and committed to actively supporting President Tinubu re-election. Their integration highlights the APC’s strategy of broadening its base and attracting influential stakeholders from opposition parties.
