In a decisive move against criminality, the Delta State Police Command has foiled a kidnap plot in Upper Agbarho, recovering firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items abandoned by fleeing suspects.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of January 11, 2026, demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and proactive law enforcement in protecting communities.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team acted on credible intelligence about the presence of six suspected kidnappers in a bush path hideout.
The intelligence prompted the deployment of a coordinated strike at around 9:35 p.m., in partnership with local community vigilantes, highlighting the critical role of community cooperation in maintaining security.
“The suspects, upon sighting the police operatives, opened fire,” the statement said. Officers responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to flee.
Some of the suspects sustained injuries during the encounter, while others escaped, leaving behind a trove of weapons and other evidence.
Among the items recovered were one FNC rifle loaded with a single round of live ammunition, a pump-action gun with thirty-two live cartridges, sachets of alcoholic drinks, matches, lighters, a bowl of soaked garri with three spoons, and nylons containing garri and groundnut.
All items were promptly taken into police custody as evidence, while a manhunt continues for the suspects who managed to escape.
