Two Ondo kidnapping suspects have been remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre following their arrest over allegations of attempted abduction and livestock theft in Ore, Ondo State.
The suspects, Ibrahim Abdulahi (30) and Abubakar Umaru (25), were arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court in Akure on a four-count charge of conspiracy, theft, and attempted kidnapping.
The suspects were apprehended by the Ondo State Police Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, highlighting the force’s ongoing commitment to tackling kidnapping and related crimes across the state.
According to police prosecutor Owolabi Edu, the offences allegedly occurred on October 16, 2025, around 5:45 p.m. in Area Mother, Ore, when the suspects allegedly attempted to abduct a herder, Bello Aliu, and stole his cow valued at N600,000.
Edu explained that Abubakar Umaru allegedly provided crucial information to Ibrahim Abdulahi and another suspect at large, known as Sandar, to facilitate the kidnapping attempt.
The offences, he added, contravened Sections 4 and 11 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping Law, 2010, as well as Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The prosecutor requested the court to remand the suspects while awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). In response, Chief Magistrate F.A. Akinboboye ordered the remand of the Ondo kidnapping suspects at Olokuta Correctional Centre and directed that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for guidance. The matter was adjourned to December 12, 2025, for mention.
