Police arrest teen in Bauchi ritual killing after he plucks out his 7-year-old sister’s eyes for money ritual; six suspects linked to the crime.
In a horrifying case that has shaken Nigeria, police have arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwalu Muhammad, in connection with a gruesome Bauchi ritual killing.
The teenager allegedly attacked his 7-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, and removed her eyes for a money ritual intended to bring him quick wealth.
The Bauchi ritual killing happened on October 17, 2025, in Wailo town, under Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to police, Auwalu lured his little sister into a nearby bush, brutally assaulted her, and plucked out both eyes before fleeing the scene.
The father of the victim, Muhammad Adamu, reported the shocking incident to the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters shortly after it occurred.

He told officers that his son had deceived the girl into following him out of the house under the pretext of playing, only to mutilate her in an apparent Bauchi ritual killing.
Acting on the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni, led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
The injured child was rescued and rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for emergency medical attention.
At the hospital, an ophthalmologist confirmed that Rukayya’s eyes had been completely damaged, leaving her permanently blind. Medical staff described the injury as one of the worst cases of ritual-related violence they had encountered.
Doctors said the young girl was stabilized, but she will need long-term medical and psychological support to recover from the trauma. Her family remains devastated as her life has been irreversibly changed by this horrific Bauchi ritual killing.
Police spokesperson CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil said in a statement that five other suspects linked to a ritualist syndicate were also arrested. They were identified as:
1. Auwal Dahiru, 17 years old, of Bayan Dutse, Wailo
2. Mohammed Rabiu, 19 years old
3. Saleh Ibrahim, 20 years old
4. Nasiru Muhammad, of Soro town
5. Hassan Garba, of Soro town
6. Garba Dahiru, 43 years old, of Soro town
According to the police, the suspects allegedly convinced Auwalu that plucking out human eyes and presenting them to a spiritualist would make him wealthy.
CSP Wakil confirmed that the Bauchi ritual killing case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for deeper investigation.
He added that all the suspects voluntarily confessed to their involvement during interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the crime, describing it as “barbaric and inhuman.”
He vowed that the perpetrators would face full prosecution and assured the public that justice will be served.
Aliyu also directed detectives to conduct a discreet and thorough investigation to uncover all those connected to the ritual ring.
“We will ensure that no participant in this evil act escapes justice,” he stated.
Residents of Wailo town expressed outrage and disbelief over the tragic event. Many community leaders called for tougher laws against ritual-related crimes and better moral guidance for youths.
Religious leaders in Bauchi held prayers for Rukayya’s recovery and urged families to monitor their children closely to prevent exposure to criminal influences.
“This Bauchi ritual killing is a wake-up call for parents and community elders,” said Malam Bala, a local elder.
“We must teach our young people that there is no shortcut to wealth.”
Experts have described the Bauchi ritual killing as part of a disturbing trend of ritual-related crimes in Nigeria.
Sociologists warn that desperation, poverty, and ignorance are driving young people toward criminal acts under the false belief that rituals can bring fortune.
Dr. Fatima Yusuf of Bauchi State University explained that many youths fall victim to manipulation by self-proclaimed spiritualists. “We must combine law enforcement with moral education to change this narrative,” she said.
The Bauchi State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities linked to ritual practices.
CSP Wakil reiterated that collaboration between the police, community leaders, and religious institutions is crucial to preventing such tragedies in the future.
He assured citizens that the Command remains committed to eradicating ritual killings, cult-related crimes, and all forms of violence across the state.
As investigations continue, the Bauchi ritual killing has become a symbol of the dangers of greed and superstition. A child has lost her sight forever, a family has been shattered, and a community has been traumatized.
Authorities have promised that justice will be delivered swiftly and that the perpetrators will face the full consequences of their actions.
The Bauchi State Police Command emphasized that there is no place for money ritual crimes in a civilized society.
They urged citizens to reject harmful traditional beliefs and work together to build communities guided by compassion, law, and morality.
