APC declares FCT election results a strong indicator for 2027 success

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the outcome of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections held last Saturday as a clear demonstration of the party’s strength and a preview of the 2027 general elections.

According to party officials, the elections were more than just local contests; they served as a critical test of the party’s organizational capacity and the acceptance of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda across the nation’s capital.

APC candidates won five of the six chairmanship positions in the FCT Area Councils, leaving only Gwagwalada out of their sweep.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) oversaw the elections, which were widely regarded as credible and transparent.

Party leaders described the results as a validation of the people-oriented policies championed by the APC-led federal government.

Speaking at the post-mortem session of the APC Situation Room and the National Campaign Council for the FCT Area Councils elections in Abuja, the national chairman of the party, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, stated that the party’s overwhelming performance in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) — the most cosmopolitan part of the capital — demonstrated the party’s legitimacy and broad-based support among Nigerians from diverse backgrounds.

“I am particularly pleased because just four days prior to the elections, a coalition leader predicted that whoever wins AMAC would effectively have won the 2027 general elections,” Yilwatda said.

“On Saturday, that prophecy came true. We thank the opposition for their prediction, which highlighted the significance of this election.

“While they focused on media campaigns, our party was actively engaging with the people on the ground through meaningful actions.”

Yilwatda emphasized that the APC’s success is directly tied to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as a people-centered policy framework targeting the most vulnerable segments of society.

“The agenda is designed to uplift citizens and address socio-economic inequalities,” he said.

“Our programmes are visible in communities across the FCT, and the support we received reflects the public’s recognition of our commitment to their welfare.”

He urged the elected chairmen to prioritize the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda in their respective councils.

“Your projects will serve as tangible milestones as we approach the 2027 elections,” Yilwatda noted.

“Maintaining good relationships with councillors and ensuring efficient implementation of programs is essential to our continued success.”

The chairman of the FCT APC Campaign Council and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, attributed the party’s success to strong leadership from President Tinubu and the guidance of national chairman Yilwatda.

He also pointed to the effectiveness of the APC’s local campaign strategies in winning voter confidence across the territory.

AbdulRazaq further indicated that the party would carefully review the electoral documents for Gwagwalada Area Council, where APC narrowly lost, to determine if legal measures could reclaim the seat.

“We are committed to exploring all legitimate avenues to ensure that APC’s performance reflects the full confidence of the electorate,” he stated.

Congratulating the newly elected chairmen, AbdulRazaq encouraged them to “hit the ground running” in implementing party policies.

He stressed that responsiveness to the people, especially in cosmopolitan councils such as AMAC, would be crucial to sustaining the momentum gained in this election cycle.

“The foundation is laid, and we expect our leaders to deliver on the promises embedded in the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added.

Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Secretary of the Council and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, reinforced this message, explaining that the tangible successes of the APC government under the Renewed Hope Agenda had directly influenced voters’ preferences.

“People could see the results of our programs in their daily lives, and this visibility made our campaign work easier,” Kalu said.

“The committee set up for the campaign was hardworking and dedicated, reflecting the President’s insistence that every effort must be made to ensure the right outcome.”

Kalu also highlighted the commitment of the APC to maintain high standards of governance at the local council level.

“Ordinarily, ruling parties might become complacent, but APC’s focus has been on consistent delivery to the people. The results of the FCT elections are a testament to this dedication,” he said.

The party leaders emphasized that the FCT Area Council elections serve not only as a mandate for local governance but also as a testing ground for strategies to be deployed in the 2027 general elections.

The success in AMAC, a hub of diverse populations and political awareness, is particularly symbolic of APC’s ability to appeal to voters across demographic and cultural lines.
