Accord affirms Adeleke as sole Osun Governorship candidate, disowns fake congress

Accord reaffirms Adeleke as its lawful Osun governorship candidate, dismisses fake congress, warns impostors and security agencies.

The Accord Osun Governorship Candidate has been officially reaffirmed following a press conference addressed by the Osun State Chairman of the Accord, Pastor Babalola Akande, on Sunday, December 14, 2025. The party categorically dismissed claims of a parallel governorship congress allegedly conducted in its name, describing it as illegal, fraudulent, and a deliberate act of electoral sabotage.

Addressing journalists and members of the public, Akande condemned what he called a reckless campaign of misinformation by individuals falsely presenting themselves as members of the Accord. He stressed that the party had not conducted any governorship primary outside its constitutionally recognised structure and warned the public against being misled.

According to the party chairman, individuals named in the purported exercise, including Fanibe and Clement Bamgbose, are not members of the Accord. Akande disclosed that Fanibe was expelled from the party as far back as 2018 for fraud and actions inimical to party unity and discipline. As such, he said, neither Fanibe nor any associate possesses the moral, legal, or political authority to act in the name of the party.

The chairman emphasized that the Accord remains unperturbed by the impersonation but considers it necessary to alert the public that those behind the charade are known affiliates of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He alleged that the move was a desperate ploy to undermine the popularity and lawful candidacy of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.

With clarity and finality, Akande stated that Governor Adeleke is the duly nominated and lawful governorship candidate of the Accord in Osun State, a position he described as incontestable and irreversible. He explained that the emergence of the Accord Osun Governorship Candidate followed due process in strict compliance with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and established judicial precedents.

He urged the people of Osun State to ignore what he described as distractions orchestrated by politically rejected actors who now resort to impersonation and institutional sabotage in a failed attempt to return to power.

Adeleke, Accord Osun Governorship Candidate

Citing provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, the party warned that only duly recognised political parties acting through their legitimate organs can lawfully conduct congresses or primaries after proper notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Any exercise outside this framework, the Accord maintained, is illegal, null, and void.

The chairman further warned that any individual parading himself as an Accord candidate without lawful nomination is guilty of impersonation and electoral fraud, offences punishable under Nigerian law. He placed INEC, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies on notice that any gathering conducted in the name of the Accord outside the recognised party structure constitutes an illegal assembly.

Akande expressed concern over the conduct of the Osun State Police Command, alleging that it declined to acknowledge official notice of the illegality while allegedly providing security for the purported congress held at night. He described the development as alarming and said the party would pursue all lawful remedies.

The Accord also revealed plans to report any legal practitioner involved in the alleged impersonation to the appropriate disciplinary authorities, including the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).

Reiterating the party’s stance, Akande declared that by virtue of the valid primary election conducted on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Governor Adeleke remains the sole and legally recognised Accord Osun Governorship Candidate. He stressed that no parallel structure, impersonator, or contrived spectacle can alter legal reality.

The party concluded by affirming its unity, vigilance, and readiness to work with the people of Osun State to secure a renewed mandate for Governor Adeleke through lawful and constitutional means.
