Victoria Police said the remains were found approximately 100 metres from a vehicle, with formal identification still underway as investigations continue.

Meteorologists confirmed temperatures had eased slightly after days of extreme heat, though dry conditions persisted.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecast mild weather in the coming days but said significant rainfall was unlikely until later in the week.
