Ondo State Police arrested a man for attempted murder of a woman, recovered an illegal gun, and warned residents against violent crimes.
The Ondo State Police Command has successfully arrested a man identified as Oladimeji in connection with the attempted murder of a woman in Akure, the state capital.
The arrest also led to the recovery of an illegal firearm, highlighting the Police’s commitment to curbing violent crime across the state.
The police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the development in a statement released on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
According to him, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim, Bosede, inflicting multiple injuries on her body during the assault.
The victim narrowly escaped further harm after the suspect reportedly fired a gunshot aimed at her.
“The Ondo State Police, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Adebowale Lawal, has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to combating violent crime in the state,” DSP Jimoh said.
“This arrest is part of our proactive measures to protect lives and ensure justice for victims.”
The incident reportedly began when Bosede, a resident of Kayode Street, Akure, lodged a distress call with the police, reporting that she had been violently attacked.
Promptly acting on the report, operatives from the Okuta Elerinla Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly mobilized to the scene, where Oladimeji was apprehended.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with multiple fist blows, leaving her with severe injuries.
Shockingly, Oladimeji also inflicted a bite injury on Bosede’s left ear, intensifying the severity of the attack.
The Police spokesperson added that the suspect’s actions escalated when he discharged a firearm at the victim. Fortunately, the bullet missed, and the victim survived the attempted murder.
Following the arrest, law enforcement officers conducted a thorough search of the suspect’s residence.
During the operation, they recovered one unlicensed single-barrel gun, confirming the suspect’s unlawful possession of a firearm.
The recovery underscores the Ondo State Police Command’s resolve to curb gun-related crimes and other acts of violence in the state.
Oladimeji has since been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation.
According to DSP Jimoh, the suspect has provided useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.
Upon conclusion of the police inquiry, the suspect will be formally charged in court for both attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
CP Adebowale Lawal, in his statement, warned residents of Ondo State against engaging in violent crimes.
“Acts of violence are not only morally unacceptable but also carry severe legal consequences. The Police Command remains vigilant and responsive to complaints from members of the public,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police further reassured citizens that the Ondo State Police Command is fully committed to ensuring justice for victims while maintaining law and order throughout the state.
CP Lawal emphasized the importance of community cooperation in crime prevention, urging residents to provide timely and credible information whenever criminal activity occurs.
The Police Command also acknowledged the strategic leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, whose reforms and technological initiatives have strengthened the operational efficiency of policing in Ondo State.
