Official Photos unveiled of all 20 Israeli hostages freed in Gaza exchange

This morning, the Israeli government released the first official photographs showing all 20 living Israeli hostages recently freed from Hamas captivity.

The images depict them shortly after crossing from Gaza, validating their release and confirming their identities in a deeply emotional moment.

The hostages were handed over in two groups under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, with Red Cross supervision, and were immediately processed by the IDF at a reception point near the Gaza border. The visual release follows intense secrecy around their identities and conditions during captivity.

In the first group of seven, captured “proof of life” photos show Matan Angrest, Gali Berman, Ziv Berman, Alon Ohel, Eitan Mor, Omri Miran, and Guy Gilboa-Dalal engaging with IDF officers, receiving medical checks, and being escorted to awaiting transport. These faces are now etched into the national consciousness.

Later in the day, the remaining 13 were also released and photographed. Their identities, confirmed by both Hamas and Israeli sources, are now public, closing a long chapter in Israel’s hostage crisis. The full list of freed individuals is:

Bar Abraham Kupershtein, Evyatar David, Yosef-Chaim Ohana, Segev Kalfon, Avinatan Or, Elkana Bohbot, Maxim Herkin, Nimrod Cohen, Matan Zangauker, Eitan Horn, Matan Angrest, Eitan Abraham Mor, Gali Berman, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, Alon Ohel, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Rom Braslavski, Ariel Cunio, and David Cunio.

These 20 are confirmed as the only living hostages from the October 7, 2023 raid still held in Gaza. Under the ceasefire terms, Hamas also agreed to release the remains of 28 captives believed dead in captivity.

The exchange is part of Operation Shavim Legvulam, a joint humanitarian and diplomatic effort involving Israel, Hamas, the United States, Egypt, and Qatar. Under the agreement, Israel will release more than 1,700 detainees from Gaza and 250 Palestinian prisoners as part of the reciprocal terms.

Ports of entry and reception zones were prepared overnight. Upon release, the hostages were transported through secure corridors to Israeli military medical units, where initial health evaluations were performed. Many appeared physically weak but responsive, and officials expect most will require long-term rehabilitation.

At Hostages Square in Tel Aviv, crowds gathered at sunrise. Large screens projected the newly published images of the freed hostages. Families, supporters, and former campaigners wept, hugged, and sang in celebration as recognition of their loved ones’ survival became official.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog welcomed the release with public addresses, calling it “a national redemption.” Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump, credited as a mediator in the ceasefire, landed in Israel and was scheduled to address the Knesset today.

Many of the hostages were abducted from the Nova music festival, kibbutzim near Gaza, and border communities in the October 2023 assault. Over the two years, a handful appeared in video statements under duress, but many families never received proof of life—until today’s images.

One of the more striking images is of Alon Ohel, once injured during the initial attack, being escorted by soldiers in Gaza amid the dawn light. Photos of Gali and Ziv Berman show the twin brothers side by side, reunited with identity and context after months of uncertainty.

Among the latter group, Rom Braslavski stands out as a symbol. He was taken during the Nova festival and, upon release, was described by family as “severely weakened but conscious,” having lost significant weight and strength. His image in the released batch underscores the harsh realities endured during captivity.

Though the images are powerful, many questions remain. The precise conditions in which the hostages were held, treatment they received, and the fate of those confirmed dead must now be fully addressed. Repatriation of remains, forensic identification, and closure for grieving families rest next on the agenda.

Analysts caution that the ceasefire is fragile. Implementation depends on both sides fulfilling commitments. Aid delivery, prisoner releases, border management, and future governance in Gaza are unresolved and pose risks of renewed hostilities.

Families of hostages still missing or unaccounted for insist that today’s release, though monumental, is only one step. Others have been held longer or remain in limbo. Their ongoing cases will demand attention from Israel and the international community.

The public images serve what campaigners once said they lacked: definitive confirmation that lives were spared. For many parents and siblings, the emotional burden of not knowing now gives way—slowly—to cautious relief and the beginning of healing.

Physicians and psychologists are already mobilized to assist the freed hostages. Each will receive personalized care plans, trauma counseling, physical therapy, and reintegration support. Many will face long recoveries.

As the country pauses to breathe, the symbolism of today will be felt in every home touched by loss, every vigil held, and every campaign launched in hopes of safe return. For 20 families, those hopes are fulfilled—today.
