The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out a series of precision airstrikes, eliminating scores of terrorists and decimating critical logistics infrastructure used by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.
The operation, executed on Sunday, July 6, targeted a notorious terrorist logistics hub located near the Mandara Mountains, along Nigeria’s border with Cameroon.
The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed in a statement that the strikes were launched following detailed Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that confirmed heightened insurgent activity in the area.
According to Ejodame, the targeted location has long served as a well-fortified stronghold for members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), a faction of the Boko Haram terrorist group.
He noted that recent ISR findings revealed significant movements and preparations in the mountainous terrain, including the presence of senior JAS commanders and increased logistical operations.
“The area, characterised by its rugged terrain and proximity to the Cameroon border, has historically been a safe haven for terrorists. Recent intelligence confirmed a build-up of logistics materials and the reemergence of key insurgent figures,” Ejodame stated.
He further explained that surveillance footage captured clusters of structures embedded within the landscape, many of which were equipped with solar panels and bore the infamous black flags associated with the group. These features, along with evidence of fortified shelters, signaled renewed insurgent activity and planning for coordinated attacks.
“In response to these developments, NAF deployed strike aircraft to execute a carefully coordinated series of air interdictions. These targeted high-value terrorist infrastructure, including logistics warehouses, command-and-control centres, and fortified defensive positions,” he added.
The airstrikes reportedly neutralised several terrorists and inflicted significant damage on their supply lines, thereby crippling their ability to launch future offensives.
This latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to dismantle terrorist networks in the North-East and maintain pressure on remnants of Boko Haram factions operating within the region.
