Fury vs Joshua rematch clause: One-off super-fight confirmed for December 11

The Fury vs Joshua rematch clause will not be included in the blockbuster heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, with the two British stars set to meet in a one-off fight on December 11.

Fury and Joshua will finally settle their long-running rivalry at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, in one of the most anticipated all-British heavyweight contests of recent years.

Despite years of speculation over a potential meeting, the contract for the December 11 bout does not contain a provision guaranteeing a second fight between the former world champions.

The absence of a rematch clause could make the contest even more significant, particularly because both fighters are approaching the latter stages of their professional careers.

Fury vs Joshua Rematch Clause Confirmed

According to Sky Sports, Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, confirmed that the agreement covers only one fight, although he refused to completely rule out a second encounter.

“Contractually, there’s one fight. There’s one big fight. It was designed for that,” Brown said.

“I’m not saying there can’t be a second fight. But, if Tyson wins, we’d like to resume things with [Oleksandr] Usyk as well.”

Brown’s comments underline the possibility that Fury could immediately turn his attention towards another major heavyweight challenge should he defeat Joshua.

However, the manager also acknowledged the enormous career implications awaiting the loser when the two rivals enter the ring in Cardiff.

“They’re all close to the end of their careers,” Brown said.

“Whoever loses here, where do they go? That’s a tough one. Where do they go afterwards?”

“Whoever wins, the journey continues. Whoever loses, they’ve got to think about what they’re going to do and when they’re going to do it.”

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury Stakes

The lack of a contractual rematch means both fighters could enter the contest knowing that there is no guaranteed opportunity to immediately settle the rivalry again.

For Joshua, the fight represents a long-awaited opportunity to face Fury after years of negotiations, public exchanges and failed attempts to put the contest together.

Fury, meanwhile, will be looking to add another major British heavyweight victory to his career while continuing his pursuit of the biggest possible fights before retirement becomes a serious consideration.

The two former world champions have already established themselves among the leading heavyweights of their generation, making the Cardiff showdown particularly important for their legacies.

Eddie Hearn Rules Out Guaranteed Rematch

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, also confirmed that the agreement does not contain a rematch provision.

“No rematch clause. It’s one fight, one-off. Listen, if it’s a blockbuster, I’m sure they’ll do it again,” Hearn told Sky Sports News.

“But for our mindset, it’s one and done.”

Hearn’s comments leave open the possibility of a second fight if the December contest becomes a commercial success, but any rematch would have to be negotiated separately.

The promoter also made clear that Joshua’s immediate objective is to defeat Fury rather than plan for a second meeting.

“Go in there, end this guy and on we go,” Hearn said.

That approach could add further intensity to a fight that has already attracted enormous attention because of the reputations of the two heavyweight stars.

Hearn Predicts All-Out Heavyweight Battle

Hearn expects the determination of both fighters to produce a brutal and competitive encounter, particularly because neither man will want to leave the ring knowing he failed to take advantage of such a major opportunity.

“Both guys could be down in this fight but they’re so desperate to win you can guarantee they’ll be climbing and crawling off that canvas to win the fight,” Hearn said.

The prediction reflects the significance of the December 11 showdown, with Fury and Joshua expected to put years of rivalry and anticipation behind them once the opening bell sounds.

A victory could potentially lead the winner towards another major heavyweight opportunity, while defeat could force the loser to reassess the direction of his career.

Fury vs Joshua Could Be One and Done

The December 11 contest has therefore been deliberately structured without a guaranteed second chapter.

While the scale of the fight could eventually make another meeting commercially attractive, neither Fury nor Joshua has a contractual obligation to meet again.

That leaves the Principality Stadium showdown as a potentially decisive moment in the careers of two of Britain’s biggest boxing stars.

For Fury, victory could open the door to another major fight, with Brown specifically mentioning the possibility of returning to the Usyk rivalry.

For Joshua, beating Fury would provide a defining victory over one of the most prominent heavyweights of his era.

The Fury vs Joshua rematch clause situation ultimately means there is no guaranteed sequel. The first fight must therefore deliver the result, drama and spectacle expected from a rivalry that has taken years to reach the ring.

With both camps insisting that the immediate priority is simply winning on December 11, the long-awaited British heavyweight super-fight could prove to be a genuine one-night-only event.
