Governor Fubara inspects Ndele-Omofo Road Project, criticizes poor contractor work, and lauds Setraco for Agba-Ndele Bridge quality and timely progress.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed concern over the Ndele-Omofo Road Project, citing slow progress and poor quality by the contractor.
The governor, who personally inspected the site, warned that mediocrity would not be tolerated and promised a contract review to safeguard public funds and ensure proper delivery.
The 14.5-kilometer Ndele-Omofo Road Project, stretching from Ndele to Agba-Ndele off the East–West Road in Emohua Local Government Area, is intended to improve rural connectivity, enhance commerce, and ease movement between communities.
However, the current contractor, Messrs Stream Co. & Equipment Limited, has failed to meet the administration’s expected standards.
“I can say here already that the contractor handling the road from the bridge to the East–West Road is not doing a good job. I’m not happy about it.
There will be a need to review that contract because I’m not impressed. We must have value for every Naira spent,” Governor Fubara said.
Governor Fubara emphasized that projects like the Ndele-Omofo Road Project are central to his administration’s infrastructure agenda, which prioritizes accountability and efficiency. Contractors that fail to deliver on quality, speed, or standards will be held responsible.
“Every project we award is designed to solve real problems for our people. If any contractor undermines that vision, we will act decisively,” the governor said.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Dr. Austin Ezekiel-Hart, accompanied the governor and provided detailed updates on the road and surrounding infrastructure.
While expressing dissatisfaction with the road contractor, Governor Fubara praised Setraco Nigeria Limited for their work on the Agba-Ndele Bridge, a 240-meter structure integral to the project.
He described the bridge as vital for connecting Abua/Odual, Ahoada-East, and Emohua Local Government Areas, reducing travel time and providing alternative routes to the East–West Road.
“This bridge connects Abua/Odual, Ahoada-East, and Emohua Local Government Areas. Residents can now access the East–West Road in minutes instead of taking long detours,” he said.
The governor is confident that the bridge will be ready by early 2026, highlighting Setraco’s capacity to meet the government’s high standards for quality and timely completion.
Governor Fubara underlined that the Ndele-Omofo Road Project and the Agba-Ndele Bridge are transformative for the local economy.
The projects are expected to serve as crucial corridors for farmers, traders, and rural communities, facilitating trade, market access, and the transportation of agricultural produce.
“Our vision is to connect the entire Rivers State, especially communities with poor access. This bridge and road network will ease movement, promote trade, and boost the local economy,” he stated.
By improving accessibility, these infrastructure projects aim to reduce travel time, enhance safety, and promote inter-community interaction—central goals in Fubara’s development plan for Rivers State.
Governor Fubara reiterated that his administration is committed to inclusive and balanced infrastructure development, covering both urban centers and rural settlements.
He assured that the Abua/Ahoada Road, currently in a deteriorated state, would soon be included in the 2026 State Budget.
“Every local government and community must feel the presence of government through real, impactful projects. Development must be shared fairly across Rivers State,” he added.
His approach prioritizes connectivity, economic empowerment, and social cohesion, ensuring that infrastructure investments generate tangible benefits for all residents.
