The Delta State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 24-year-old Jessica Anthony after investigations revealed her alleged involvement in what officers described as a carefully planned betrayal.
According to the police, the suspect attempted to use criminal elements to stage a robbery against a man she had been in a romantic relationship with for nearly two years.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, explained that the relationship between the suspect and the victim was unstable but ongoing.
The couple had reportedly broken up at some point, only to reconcile later. Despite their turbulent history, they remained emotionally and physically close, with evidence showing they were still intimate as recently as December 2025.
This closeness, investigators believe, made the alleged scheme easier to plan and nearly successful.
Edafe disclosed that the suspect allegedly became desperate for money and decided to exploit her access to the victim.
In what police described as the first stage of the Delta robbery plot, she allegedly enlisted the help of a close female associate, identified as Ada, to look for individuals capable of carrying out the staged attack.
The two women reportedly visited a known criminal hotspot in Warri, commonly referred to as a “black spot,” where they hoped to find armed robbers willing to participate.
The suspect allegedly requested assistance in robbing her boyfriend, though it remains unclear whether she openly disclosed that the intended target was her romantic partner.
Unbeknownst to her, fate intervened. One of the individuals she approached turned out to be a respected community leader who had been actively collaborating with law enforcement to identify and eliminate criminal networks in the area.
Upon being shown a photograph of the intended victim, the man immediately recognised him as someone he knew personally.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, the community leader discreetly contacted the victim to alert him that a robbery had been proposed against him.
The victim, after hearing the details, agreed to cooperate with the plan in order to expose all those involved. This cooperation would later prove critical in unraveling the Delta robbery plot before it turned violent.
To maintain the illusion, the supposed robbers demanded ₦65,000 from the suspect and her friend, claiming it was needed to purchase equipment for the operation.

The suspects later led the group to the estate where the boyfriend resides, pointing out his house and detailing access routes.
However, as they exited the estate, the victim secretly alerted security personnel, who quickly moved in and apprehended everyone involved.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to staging the robbery with the aim of extorting ₦7 million from her boyfriend.
She allegedly told investigators that the funds were intended to cover medical expenses for her sister, though police noted that this claim remains under investigation.
Further questioning revealed that the suspect was also aware of valuable gold jewellery owned by the victim.
According to police findings, she believed selling the items would provide quick financial returns.
The victim later confirmed that he owned two gold pieces—one valued at approximately ₦4.2 million and another estimated at ₦8.9 million—making the motive behind the Delta robbery plot clearer.
SP Edafe noted that the case highlights a disturbing trend where personal relationships are exploited for criminal gain.
He praised the role of community leaders in supporting law enforcement and stressed the importance of vigilance, especially when crimes are planned within trusted circles.
