Manchester City assistant coach Kolo Toure has insisted that his City is fully focused on themselves and not distracted by Arsenal, despite the Premier League title race intensifying.
Toure, who played for both Arsenal and Manchester City during his celebrated career, highlighted that City’s focus remains on internal growth and performance, not rivals’ results or headlines.
“When you play for Man City, and you work for Man City, you know every competition is crucial, and the aim is to fight hard and win every challenge,” he said.
City’s campaign this season has been closely monitored, with Arsenal enjoying a strong run, but Toure emphasized that his team is prepared to handle pressure through focus and discipline.
“We focus on what we can control. Arsenal has quality, a fantastic manager, and a strong squad, but City’s approach is to concentrate on ourselves,” Toure added.
The former Ivory Coast international highlighted Pep Guardiola’s influence, describing him as the “best manager in the world,” capable of inspiring players and staff to reach their peak in every match.
“His passion for the game is evident every day. He motivates everyone, ensures we are fully prepared, and drives us to give our very best in all competitions,” Toure noted.
City’s mentality, according to Toure, is to treat every fixture like a final, regardless of league position or opponent. “We prepare meticulously for each game, and execution is key,” he explained.
Despite Toure’s history with Arsenal, he refused to be distracted by comparisons between his former club and current side. “I know Arsenal well, but City’s focus must remain inward, on our own standards and targets,” he said.
City’s assistant coach also underlined the importance of squad unity. “Everyone in the squad has a role, from starters to substitutes. The cohesion and work ethic here are remarkable, and it shows on the pitch.”
Rotation and strategy are central to Guardiola’s philosophy. Toure explained, “The manager knows how to rotate players, balance workloads, and maintain consistency, which ensures City stays competitive across all competitions.”
