The Osun local government crisis worsens as withheld allocations trigger socio-economic hardships. CCNC gives three-day ultimatum to government, APC, and Adeleke.
The ongoing Osun local government crisis has reached a critical stage, with residents facing severe socio-economic hardships due to withheld local government allocations.
The Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens (CCNC) has now issued a stern three-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to urgently address the crisis, warning that failure to act will compel the coalition to adopt more drastic nationwide measures.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Comrade Raufu Sodiq, the CCNC spokesperson, expressed profound concern over the prolonged dispute, noting that it has crippled essential services and disrupted the lives of ordinary citizens across the state.
“The people of Osun are suffering,” Sodiq stated, “and the effect of withheld funds from local governments is visible in every community.”
Sodiq explained that the coalition conducted extensive investigations to assess the full impact of the crisis.
These included field visits, interviews with local community leaders, and sectoral assessments covering health, education, and small business operations.
Findings revealed that the continuous seizure of local government funds has created a ripple effect that has undermined livelihoods and essential public services.
Small businesses, which rely heavily on patronage from local government workers, have been particularly hard hit.
According to the coalition, many merchants have experienced a decline in income, mounting debts, and rising health challenges due to financial stress.
Vendors who previously supplied goods on credit are now unable to meet their repayment obligations as consumer demand has collapsed.
Traditional rulers and community leaders, who often depend on local government allocations to pay staff and fund community initiatives, have also been severely affected.
The impact of the Osun local government crisis extends deeply into the education sector.
The O’MEAL school feeding program, which provides meals to children in public schools, has been halted due to the lack of funding.
This disruption has forced thousands of children to abandon their education and resort to street hawking to survive.
Comrade Sodiq emphasized that approximately 2,470 food vendors lost their livelihoods, and nearly 204,000 children were directly affected when the program was suspended.
“The ripple effects of this crisis are devastating,” he said, “and they threaten the future of our youth and the stability of our communities.”
The coalition also raised concerns about the wider socio-economic repercussions of the crisis. Families dependent on government allocations for basic needs are now struggling to survive.
The withholding of funds has caused inflation in local markets, increased indebtedness among households, and limited access to health and education services.
Sodiq warned that prolonged inaction would deepen the divide between government authorities and citizens, fostering resentment and unrest.
The CCNC has called on the Federal Government, the state government, and political stakeholders to urgently intervene to resolve the crisis.
The coalition underscored that local governments play a vital role in delivering essential services and supporting grassroots development.
When allocations are withheld, the impact is felt directly by residents, resulting in widespread hardship.
“This is not just a political dispute,” Sodiq explained.
“It is a humanitarian issue affecting every facet of daily life in Osun State.”
In addition to economic hardships, the coalition highlighted the effect of the crisis on community cohesion.
Traditional institutions, which often serve as stabilizing forces in society, are struggling to function due to a lack of resources.
Many community projects and initiatives have been stalled, further undermining social development and the quality of life for residents.
Sodiq stressed that the Osun local government crisis is now a matter of urgent national concern.
The coalition warned that if no action is taken within the three-day ultimatum, it would escalate its efforts through organized protests, advocacy campaigns, and nationwide awareness programs to ensure that justice is served.
The CCNC emphasized that their goal is not to create unrest but to compel authorities to fulfill their responsibilities to the citizens.
Experts in governance and public administration have noted that withholding local government allocations is a major contributor to socio-economic instability.
Funds meant for public services such as healthcare, education, sanitation, and infrastructure are diverted or delayed, directly affecting the well-being of citizens.
The CCNC has urged the government to release all withheld allocations immediately and to implement policies that prevent future disruptions.
The crisis has also shed light on the vulnerability of small businesses in Osun State.
Entrepreneurs dependent on government-related patronage are facing declining revenues, forcing many to reduce staff or shut down operations entirely.
The resulting economic stagnation has further compounded the hardship of residents, creating a cycle of poverty and insecurity that threatens long-term development.
Education advocates have similarly expressed alarm at the halt of the O’MEAL program.
The feeding initiative, which was designed to enhance school attendance and improve learning outcomes, is now suspended.
Comrade Sodiq emphasized that without intervention, the number of out-of-school children is likely to increase, posing long-term consequences for human capital development in Osun State.
