APC reacts to Atiku revolution remarks in Nigeria

APC reacts to Atiku revolution remarks, calling them reckless while highlighting ongoing Tinubu administration efforts to tackle hunger and insecurity.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent Atiku revolution remarks, warning that his statements could create unnecessary tension in Nigeria.

The party described the comments as politically provocative and lacking constructive solutions to the country’s ongoing socio-economic challenges.

Atiku had issued a statement earlier this week, drawing comparisons between Nigeria’s current economic and security situation and historical uprisings, including the French and Russian revolutions and the Arab Spring.

He suggested that unless addressed urgently, hunger and insecurity in Nigeria could escalate into violent unrest.

While he presented his remarks as a critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the APC viewed them as alarmist and destabilizing.

Atiku revolution remarks

Speaking from Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka dismissed the Atiku revolution remarks as reckless.

“While framed as economic critique, Atiku’s statement amounts to a call for revolution. It is irresponsible and unhelpful to national unity,” Morka said.

The APC emphasized that Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 16 years in government with significant oil revenues and opportunities to tackle poverty, hunger, and insecurity.

“During their tenure, these issues worsened rather than improved. Corruption and inefficiency became entrenched, leaving the country vulnerable,” Morka added.

Atiku referenced historical revolutions to underline the potential consequences of prolonged socio-economic distress.

The APC, however, argued that such comparisons are misleading.

“Invoking uprisings in France, Russia, or the Arab Spring exaggerates the situation in Nigeria and ignores the measures being taken by the current administration,” Morka stated.

Experts observing the political exchange note that opposition rhetoric often includes strong historical analogies to mobilize public sentiment.

While raising awareness about hunger and insecurity is legitimate, framing these challenges as triggers for revolution may heighten public anxiety unnecessarily.

The APC highlighted that President Tinubu’s administration is implementing policies to address poverty, insecurity, and economic instability.

Initiatives include job creation programs, improved security measures, and targeted poverty alleviation strategies.

“The Atiku revolution remarks overlook these efforts and risk undermining confidence in government programs,” Morka said.

“Progress is gradual, but measurable steps are being taken to address decades-long challenges inherited from previous administrations.”

The APC also drew attention to the PDP’s governance record. According to the party, Atiku and his colleagues failed to implement effective policies during their tenure, allowing hunger, poverty, and insecurity to persist.

“It is important to contextualize the current administration’s work. The PDP left structural inefficiencies that the Tinubu government continues to confront,” Morka added.

By emphasizing past PDP failures, the APC aimed to counter Atiku’s claims and highlight the difference in approach between the current government and previous administrations.

Public opinion on the Atiku revolution remarks has been mixed. Supporters argue that Atiku is signaling urgent attention to socio-economic issues, while critics aligned with the APC describe the comments as alarmist.

Analysts caution that provocative rhetoric, without constructive solutions, may exacerbate tension in an already challenging political environment.

The APC insists that national discourse should prioritize practical solutions over fear-inducing statements.

By framing socio-economic challenges as a potential revolution, Atiku, in the party’s view, shifts focus from actionable policy measures to political drama.

The APC condemned Atiku’s remarks as an irresponsible attempt to stoke unrest, stressing the importance of constructive engagement.

While acknowledging the country’s hunger, poverty, and insecurity challenges, the party emphasized ongoing efforts under the Tinubu administration to address these issues.

The Atiku revolution remarks serve as a reminder of the highly charged political climate in Nigeria, where historical analogies, governance critiques, and national security concerns often intersect.

According to the APC, national leaders should focus on pragmatic solutions rather than rhetoric that could provoke tension or panic.
