Tensions have escalated within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the decision by the Wuse Ward chapter of the party in the Federal Capital Territory to suspend Senator Ireti Kingibe indefinitely over allegations of misconduct and anti-party behaviour.
The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting convened in Abuja by the ward leadership of the ADC.
The gathering brought together party executives, members, and supporters to deliberate on issues affecting the local structure of the party.
During the meeting, the Wuse Ward Chairman, Kanayo Chukwu, disclosed that the decision to suspend the lawmaker followed a general assembly of ward members held on March 10, 2026.

According to him, the meeting was attended by a large number of party members who reviewed several complaints raised against the senator.
Chukwu explained that members discussed accusations relating to actions that allegedly undermined party unity and discipline.
After lengthy deliberations, participants reportedly agreed that the issues raised required disciplinary measures under the party’s internal rules.
Among the allegations discussed during the gathering were claims that the senator confiscated the ward’s membership register and allegedly organised a separate registration exercise outside the officially recognised party process.
Ward members also accused her of consistently failing to attend important party meetings within the ward.
Another issue raised was the alleged failure of the senator to meet her financial obligations to the party, including statutory dues expected from members holding political office under the ADC platform.
According to Chukwu, these actions were interpreted by several members as acts of disregard for the party’s leadership structure.
Following the discussions, a motion was reportedly introduced calling for the immediate suspension of the senator from party activities at the ward level.
Chukwu stated that the motion received the backing of a two-thirds majority of the ward executives present at the meeting.
He emphasised that the decision was not taken lightly, noting that members carefully examined the accusations before arriving at the conclusion that disciplinary action was necessary to protect the integrity of the party.
“The general house considered the allegations seriously and agreed that they were grave enough to warrant action,” Chukwu explained.
“A motion for the suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe was moved and subsequently endorsed by more than two-thirds of the executives in attendance.”
According to him, the resolution reached at the meeting has already been formally forwarded to the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council chapter of the party, Omale Sule, for further ratification in line with the internal procedures of the ADC.
Sule confirmed that he had received the communication from the ward leadership.
However, he explained that the matter would follow due administrative processes before any final determination is made at higher levels of the party structure.
“As the party chairman at the local government level, I must first receive the official documentation and review it properly,” Sule said.
“Once the process is completed here, the matter will be transmitted to the state chairman for further consideration in accordance with the rules of the ADC.”
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory chairman of the party, Clement Ehijiator, also acknowledged that the leadership had been notified of the ward’s action against the senator.
Ehijiator explained that the meeting where the issue emerged was originally planned to address membership registration and other organisational matters concerning the ADC in the FCT.
However, discussions during the session eventually extended to the allegations levelled against Kingibe.
He assured party members that the leadership in the territory would conduct a careful review of the claims before forwarding its position to the national leadership of the party.
“As the constitutional chairman of the party in the Federal Capital Territory, I have received the report regarding the decision taken by the ward,” Ehijiator said.
“Our responsibility now is to examine the allegations thoroughly and ensure that every step taken complies with the provisions of the party’s constitution.”
He further explained that once the internal review is completed at the FCT level, the findings would be transmitted to the national leadership of the ADC, which has the authority to make a final determination on disciplinary matters involving elected officials.
Political observers believe the development could generate wider discussions within the party, particularly as the ADC continues to strengthen its internal structures ahead of future elections.
Despite the controversy surrounding the suspension, party members present at the meeting also used the opportunity to pass a vote of confidence in Ehijiator.
They commended his leadership style and praised his efforts to stabilise and expand the party’s presence within the Federal Capital Territory.
Supporters at the gathering expressed optimism that the leadership of the ADC would handle the situation in a manner that promotes unity, fairness, and adherence to party rules.
As the review process continues, attention will remain focused on how the party’s leadership resolves the dispute and what implications the decision may have for the future political standing of Senator Ireti Kingibe within the ADC.
