ADC denies picking candidate for 2026 Osun governorship election

ADC denies reports of pre-selected 2026 Osun governorship candidate, confirming primaries remain open and all aspirants will participate in a fair election process.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly denied widespread reports alleging that the political party has already selected a candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The party reaffirmed that its official primary election process remains open, and all aspirants will participate in line with the party’s timetable. According to the ADC, any suggestion of a pre-selected candidate is false and misleading.

The clarification follows viral reports claiming that Dr. Najeem Salaam had been chosen during a closed-door Lagos meeting as the party’s preferred candidate over former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti.

Social media accounts alleged the meeting was convened to reconcile internal party factions and produce a unified candidate.

The reports suggested the vote tilted in Salaam’s favor, hinting at possible shifts in ADC dynamics.

However, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed these reports as inaccurate.

Abdullahi emphasized that the ADC primaries are still pending and that all aspirants will be given equal opportunity to compete.

“Videos and social media posts claiming that the party has picked a candidate are false and should be disregarded,” Abdullahi stated.

The ADC also clarified that the Lagos meeting did not involve candidate selection.

Its purpose was to reconcile administrative differences, strengthen internal structures, and prepare for upcoming political activities ahead of the Osun election.

No decisions regarding the party’s standard-bearer were made.

The party urged all political aspirants to focus on preparing for the ADC primaries, following the official timetable and guidelines.

Abdullahi reiterated that the party is committed to conducting a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

The ADC emphasized that its internal democracy is non-negotiable, and the candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election will emerge solely through a legitimate primary.

Political analysts have noted that the ADC’s proactive clarification reflects its commitment to transparency and internal cohesion.

By addressing misinformation promptly, the party is reinforcing trust among members and supporters. Abdullahi encouraged all stakeholders to rely on official channels for accurate updates regarding the Osun election.

The ADC reaffirmed that the primary process will determine the party’s candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Until the primaries are conducted, no aspirant should be considered as pre-selected.

The party remains focused on fairness, inclusivity, and maintaining high democratic standards throughout the selection process.
