Accord expands membership registration drive ahead of 2027 elections

Nigeria’s growing political organisation, the Accord Party, has intensified preparations for the 2027 political season by introducing an upgraded digital portal for its ongoing Accord membership registration exercise across the country.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the party leadership to modernise its administrative systems, expand its support base, and strengthen internal structures ahead of the next general elections.

Party officials say the improved online platform will help streamline the process for both new members and those seeking to update their membership records.

The nationwide Accord membership registration exercise officially commenced on March 4, 2026, and is open to Nigerians in every part of the country as well as citizens living in the diaspora.

By widening participation beyond Nigeria’s borders, the party hopes to build a more inclusive political network that reflects the interests of Nigerians at home and abroad.

In a statement announcing the development, the National Chairman of the party, Maxwell Mgbudem, explained that the new portal was designed to make the Accord membership registration process faster, safer, and easier to complete.

According to him, the platform incorporates upgraded digital features that simplify the registration steps while ensuring stronger data protection for users.

He noted that technology-driven reforms like this are essential for political parties that want to remain organised and responsive in an increasingly digital era.

Mgbudem emphasised that the improved portal would significantly reduce technical delays and make it easier for members to complete their registration from any location using internet-enabled devices.

He added that the move reflects the party’s commitment to innovation and transparency in its operations.

Another key feature of the system, according to the party leadership, is the automatic integration of data from earlier registrations.

Members who had previously completed the Accord membership registration process on the former platform will not be required to repeat the process, provided they used the correct National Identification Number (NIN) during their initial registration.

Party officials explained that the system will automatically recognise such records and migrate them into the new database without requiring additional verification steps.

This measure is expected to prevent duplication and ensure the accuracy of the party’s membership records.

The leadership also directed ward, local government, and zonal executives across the country to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts in support of the exercise.

Party coordinators were encouraged to organise awareness campaigns, community meetings, and outreach activities to promote the Accord membership registration initiative.

According to the statement, the success of the exercise will depend largely on the commitment of party leaders at all levels to engage with citizens and encourage wider participation.

The leadership stressed that expanding the party’s membership is crucial to building a stronger organisational structure capable of competing effectively in future elections.

With Nigeria’s political landscape becoming increasingly competitive, parties are placing greater emphasis on strengthening grassroots connections and building reliable membership databases.

Beyond domestic participation, the party also highlighted the importance of Nigerians living abroad in shaping the country’s democratic future.

The upgraded portal allows members of the diaspora to take part in the Accord membership registration exercise without the need to travel back to Nigeria.

Party officials believe that engaging Nigerians overseas will help enrich policy discussions within the party and encourage broader national participation in democratic processes.

Mgbudem further reiterated that the party remains open to Nigerians who wish to contest elective offices in the upcoming elections.

He noted that the party intends to provide a credible platform for individuals who are committed to responsible leadership and national development.

According to him, the 2027 elections will offer another opportunity for citizens to redefine Nigeria’s democratic trajectory by supporting leaders who prioritise accountability, development, and unity.

He added that the party’s preparations, including the ongoing membership drive, are part of a long-term strategy aimed at strengthening democratic participation and ensuring that citizens have viable political alternatives.

“The coming elections will provide Nigerians another opportunity to unite in pursuit of a stronger and more progressive democratic nation,” the statement said.

The party also used the opportunity to encourage citizens to play active roles in shaping the country’s political future.

It stressed that democratic progress can only be sustained when citizens participate fully in political processes, including party membership and electoral engagement.

According to the leadership, political participation should not be limited to voting during elections but should also involve contributing ideas, supporting community mobilisation, and promoting responsible leadership.

Observers note that political parties across Nigeria have begun early preparations for the 2027 general elections, with membership expansion emerging as a key strategy for strengthening their political influence.

For the Accord Party, the digital upgrade of its registration platform represents an effort to remain competitive in an evolving political environment where technology plays a growing role in political organisation and mobilisation.

The party concluded by reaffirming its guiding philosophy centred on unity and collective progress.

It pledged continued dedication to democratic values, inclusive governance, and responsible leadership as the country gradually approaches another crucial electoral cycle.

Party leaders expressed optimism that the ongoing Accord membership registration drive will attract a new generation of supporters who share the vision of building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria for present and future generations.
