The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his performance in the FCT over the past two years as unprecedented and transformative.
Wike made this assertion on Thursday in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing infrastructure projects, which are scheduled for completion and inauguration as part of the celebrations marking President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.
Wike expressed deep satisfaction with the pace and quality of development witnessed in the FCT under the current administration, emphasizing that the level of progress achieved in such a short period is unparalleled in the history of Abuja. According to him, the achievements of President Tinubu have become visibly evident not only in the FCT but also across the entire country.
“I am very happy with what Mr. President has done, especially here in the FCT,” Wike said. “It has never happened before. What we are witnessing today is something extraordinary. The president has done tremendously well, and it is evident in every part of the country.”
The Minister further noted that Nigerians are already acknowledging Tinubu’s achievements and have started advocating for him to be given another opportunity to serve, citing the compelling results of his leadership so far.
“Tinubu’s achievements in the FCT are unprecedented,” Wike stated. “And if this is what we’ve seen in just two years, imagine what the next two or four years could bring. The momentum is clear, and the transformation is ongoing.”
He referenced his previous comments, highlighting the shift in public perception regarding Abuja’s development. “Yesterday, I spoke the truth. Many of us who had been critics admitted that Abuja wasn’t working. But today, those same voices are acknowledging that Abuja is now working—and the credit goes to Mr. President,” he remarked.
As part of his role, Wike pledged to remain fully committed to his assignment from President Tinubu—to transform Abuja into a modern, functional, and proud capital city for all Nigerians. He emphasized that no effort would be spared in ensuring the capital reflects the ambitions of the nation.
While addressing reporters during the inspection tour, Wike explained that the visits were aimed at ensuring contractors adhere to project timelines and maintain high-quality standards.
He revealed that he was particularly impressed by the completion of the Apo to Wassa Junction Road, which constitutes the left-wing service lane of the Outer Southern Expressway. He confirmed that the project had been 100 percent completed.
To complement the new infrastructure, Wike disclosed that the Apo–Wassa road would also be fitted with streetlights to enhance security and mobility. He added that the contractor, CGC, had already submitted a proposal for the streetlight installation.
In addition to the Apo–Wassa project, Wike highlighted other significant works nearing completion. “We also visited the N20 Interchange, which will connect Wole Soyinka Way with the Murtala Mohammed Expressway, commonly known as the Kubwa Expressway. This project will soon be completed and inaugurated,” he said.
The Minister also inspected the access road from Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Dakibiyu District. According to him, this road is also on schedule for completion and commissioning.
“Frankly speaking,” Wike continued, “as I have always maintained, the residents of Abuja deserve the best. The contractors are putting in their best effort, and I can assure you that nothing short of excellence will be delivered. For me, I cannot give anything less than the best.”
He underscored President Tinubu’s vision, stating that the President had made it clear that Nigerians deserve the best in infrastructure and governance.
“We will continue to work to ensure that we meet that expectation,” he affirmed. “Just look at the infrastructure—the roads, the expansion, the connectivity—it’s simply unimaginable, and we intend to keep it going.”
Wike called on residents of the FCT to support the administration by fulfilling their civic responsibilities. He emphasized that development is a collaborative effort and urged citizens to play their part for the benefit of both Abuja and the entire nation.
