The Oyo State Government has approved the nomination and appointment of Dr. Saka Balogun as the new Balogun of Ogbomosoland.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday May 5, by the Commissioner for Information of Oyo State, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
According to the statement, a document from the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, revealed that the stool of the Balogun of Ogbomosoland has been vacant following the demise of the former Balogun of Ogbomosoland, Alhaji Shittu Fasina.
According to the information Commissioner, Dr. Saka Balogun was unanimously nominated by the Balogun Taiwo Atere-Gbebi Ruling House to assume the position of his fore-fathers.
He said the new Balogun’s confirmation is in line with the Chiefs Law Cap. 28, Laws of Oyo State, 2000 and his appointment is effective from 28th April, 2025.
The appointment followed as Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, endorsed Dr. Saka Balogun as the Balogun of Ogbomosoland.
As part of his preparation for the chieftaincy title, the Soun has directed Dr. Balogun to engage in community development projects, specifically rebuilding the Oja’gbo market. The project is reportedly nearing completion.
The Soun’s directive for Dr. Balogun to undertake community development projects marks a departure from traditional expectations. However, it highlights the monarch’s emphasis on community service and development.
