We will release VeryDarkMan when he meets the bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible we are law-abiding.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over multiple petitions.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the activist was taken into custody following complaints from several petitioners.
The EFCC’s action suggests that the agency is investigating allegations made against VeryDarkMan, although specific details about the petitions and allegations have not been disclosed.
Oyewale said, “We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners.”
When questioned about a possible connection to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale clarified that the petitions came from various individuals, and the agency has a responsibility to protect them.
Oyewale further stated that the EFCC plans to arraign the social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan), as part of the ongoing investigation.
He said, “We will release him when he meets the bail conditions and we will take the case to court as soon as possible we are law-abiding.”
As a prominent social media figure, VeryDarkMan’s arrest has drawn attention, and the EFCC’s investigation will likely determine the outcome.
The Take It Back Movement has condemned the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) in a press release signed by Lagos State Coordinator Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek (Scotty Aluta).
The group described the arrest as “unlawful” and “premeditated,” alleging complicity between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank). They claim this constitutes an abuse of power, sparking concerns about the EFCC’s motives and potential overreach.
The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, also expressed strong disapproval over the circumstances surrounding the arrest of VeryDarkMan.
Obi’s condemnation highlights growing concerns over the manner in which security agencies sometimes carry out their operations, particularly when it involves public figures or individuals with a significant online presence.
IREPORT247NEW had earlier reported that the Nigerian police in Abuja have detained VeryDarkMan, at the behest of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
This follows Otse’s public outcry over what he claims to be unauthorised withdrawals from his mother’s bank account.
VeryDarkMan was upset that his mother’s bank account had been repeatedly debited for loan repayments.
