“Foreign rice sells between N52,000 and N56,000 depending on location, but much of it has been stored for years or may even be expired,” Agbayewa said.
“At N57,000 per bag, Lagos rice provides assured nutritional value, food safety, and freshness. This pricing strategy will likely push other states to reconsider their market prices, benefiting consumers nationwide.”

In Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital and a major rice-consuming market, preliminary surveillance indicates that local rice is currently priced between N60,000 and N63,000 per 50 kg bag, depending on the brand and processing quality.
Traders in Bodija, Dugbe, and Mokola markets report stable supply, but imported rice remains slightly cheaper, ranging from N52,000 to N55,000 per bag, mirroring the trend observed in Lagos.
