Osun Governor Adeleke resigns from PDP due to leadership crisis, reshaping the 2026 governorship race and sparking speculation about his next political move.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the ongoing national leadership crisis within the party.

This decision comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2026 governorship elections, signaling a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
The resignation follows recent statements from the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, who confirmed that Adeleke would not pursue the party’s re-election ticket due to unresolved disputes at the national level.
In his resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde in Ede, Adeleke expressed disappointment over the party’s leadership challenges.
Titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” the letter reads:
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the party with immediate effect.
“I thank the PDP for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State under the PDP.”
Political analysts warn that Adeleke’s departure could reshape the PDP’s prospects in Osun State.
His popularity and influence make him a key political figure whose exit may shift voter support and realign party dynamics ahead of the 2026 election.
Earlier reports suggested that Adeleke was unlikely to contest the PDP nomination unless the internal conflicts were resolved.
His resignation now confirms these speculations and raises questions about his next political move.
So far, Adeleke has not revealed which party he intends to join, leaving room for strategic speculation among political observers.
The PDP leadership crisis, which has persisted for months, stems from disputes over internal party elections and control of key national positions.
IREPORT247NEWS noted that Adeleke was absent from the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan—a rare occurrence, given that the convention took place in the southwestern zone, where he has traditionally been one of the most prominent PDP figures.
In the past, Adeleke had consistently affirmed his loyalty to the PDP. Amid speculation about a possible shift to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he publicly reiterated his commitment to the party, emphasizing unity, organization, and dedication to its success.
During the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee for the PDP convention, scheduled for October 15th and 16th, Adeleke addressed rumors of political defection:
“Some people think I might join the APC because I have friends there or have been seen at their events. I am a very civilized person. Attending weddings or social functions of friends does not mean I am leaving the PDP.”

Observers will closely watch which political platform Adeleke chooses next, as his decision will likely influence campaign strategies, alliances, and voter behavior in Osun State.
