Mr Macaroni reacts to rape allegation, says claim is political propaganda

Nigerian comedian, actor, and socio-political activist, Adebowale Adedayo—widely known as Mr Macaroni—has forcefully denied a rape allegation circulating on social media, describing it as a malicious attempt to silence his continued criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Mr Macaroni denies rape allegation, forms the central theme of a dispute that has triggered widespread reactions online, raising questions about the misuse of social media for political propaganda and personal attacks.

The controversy erupted after an X user with the handle @Lukurawa16703 accused the entertainer of raping a 17-year-old girl and allegedly using the Nigeria Police Force to intimidate the victim’s family.

The user posted the claim while reposting one of Mr Macaroni’s recent comments condemning the government over Nigeria’s rising insecurity.

According to the controversial post,

“This guy actually raped a 17-year-old girl and used police to oppress her family. Now he’s an activist?”

The allegation immediately gained traction, prompting public scrutiny and a swift response from the activist, who insisted that the entire claim was fabricated and politically motivated.

In a detailed rebuttal shared on his official X handle, Mr Macaroni denies rape allegation, saying he felt compelled to respond due to the “horrendous and distasteful nature” of the accusation.

He categorically stated that the person behind the post was a supporter of President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the smear campaign was created to discredit him for speaking against the government’s failures.

Political Undercurrents and Social Media Propaganda

The comedian, known for his bold political stance and active participation in civic advocacy, argued that his continuous criticism of governance shortcomings has made him a target of coordinated attacks across social media.

He described the allegation as part of a broader propaganda machinery designed to intimidate voices that hold the government accountable.

He wrote that the claim was not only false but dangerous, noting that such defamatory statements can have long-term consequences on victims of real sexual assault, whose experiences risk being overshadowed by politically motivated fabrications.

The entertainer reiterated that Mr Macaroni denies rape allegation because it has no factual basis and was crafted to weaponise public sentiment.

He further asserted that the accuser’s political leanings were evident from the account history, adding that the pattern of trolling and harassment he had endured over the past months aligned with orchestrated efforts to silence dissenters.

Legal Action Imminent as Activist Seeks Accountability

In a strong response, Mr Macaroni announced that he would pursue legal action against the individual behind the allegation.

According to him, the aim is not only to clear his name but also to set a precedent against reckless and harmful accusations on social media platforms.

He called on the public to assist with any verifiable information leading to the identification of the account owner, explaining that accountability is necessary to discourage others from weaponising false allegations for political purposes.

“This tweet serves as an opportunity to strongly refute this ridiculous accusation and any other kind from the infested supporters of the APC because I expect their disease to continue to spread,” he stated, adding that nothing would stop him from criticizing what he described as “an abomination of a government.”

His declaration further amplified public conversation around digital accountability and the ease with which false allegations spread online, especially when tied to political sentiments.

Broader Reactions and Implication

The development has sparked reactions from fellow activists, fans, and political observers, many of whom expressed concerns about the increasing trend of using serious allegations as political weapons.

Advocates of digital rights warned that while social media platforms empower citizens to speak freely, they can also be exploited for misinformation and character assassination.

Some Nigerians argued that such controversies risk trivializing genuine cases of sexual abuse, thereby discouraging survivors from speaking out.

Others noted that the heated political atmosphere in the country has made prominent critics more vulnerable to targeted smear campaigns.

Meanwhile, supporters of President Tinubu dismissed claims that the allegation was politically motivated, urging authorities to conduct a due investigation if evidence emerges.

However, no formal complaint has been filed with law enforcement, and no evidence has been presented publicly to support the accusation.

Mr Macaroni’s Activism and Ongoing Criticism of Government

Mr Macaroni has maintained a consistent track record of confronting government policies he views as harmful or unprogressive.

From the #EndSARS protests to his recent critiques of the government’s handling of insecurity, inflation, and governance, he has remained one of the most vocal entertainers in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Despite the ongoing controversy, the comedian insisted that he would not be deterred. He reaffirmed that Mr Macaroni denies rape allegation entirely and remains committed to speaking truth to power, regardless of smear attempts or orchestrated online attacks.
