Makinde launches Reset Nigeria Movement and presidential campaign structure as preparations begin for a nationwide political contest in 2027.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has triggered widespread political reactions after formally declaring his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, a development that immediately shifted attention to emerging opposition realignments ahead of the next general polls.

The declaration came on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, during a high-profile political gathering at Mapo Hall, where political stakeholders, youth groups, professionals and party leaders converged for what is now seen as one of the early defining moments of the 2027 election cycle.

The event also featured a major political development as opposition parties moved to formalise cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signalling early attempts at strategic alignment ahead of the national contest.

As part of the arrangement, the Peoples Democratic Party was represented by Seyi Bamidele, who signed on its behalf, while Oladele Oyadeji signed for the Allied People’s Movement.

The agreement was further endorsed by Governor Makinde himself alongside the National Chairman of APM, Yusuf Dantalle, in what observers describe as a key step toward consolidating political cooperation within opposition circles.

Shortly after the signing process, Makinde formally announced his presidential ambition, a move that instantly amplified political discussions across the country and heightened attention on the evolving opposition structure.

He stated that Nigeria urgently needs what he called a “political reset,” arguing that governance must shift toward accountability, institutional strength and measurable development outcomes that directly impact citizens.

Makinde further explained that his “Reset Nigeria” initiative is aimed at rebuilding public trust, strengthening governance systems and promoting leadership driven by performance rather than rhetoric.

According to him, the country has reached a point where citizens demand results, not promises, insisting that Nigeria must move beyond what he described as repetitive “politics as usual.”

The announcement has already begun generating reactions across political circles, with observers suggesting that the combination of the MoU signing and Makinde’s presidential declaration could reshape early coalition strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supporters at the venue reacted with excitement and chants following the announcement, with many describing the moment as the beginning of a new political direction in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
