The Kano murder case involving a housewife and six children has triggered public outrage as police arrest key suspects and uncover links to earlier killings.
The brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters has sent shockwaves across Kano, reviving concerns over violent crime and family-targeted attacks within residential communities.
The incident, which occurred in the late hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026, has since drawn widespread public attention following the arrest of three principal suspects by the Kano State Police Command.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects were apprehended through intelligence-driven operations carried out under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to the Command, the arrests marked a significant breakthrough in a case that had initially left residents fearful and searching for answers.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained that the Command acted swiftly after piecing together credible intelligence from multiple sources.
The operation, which lasted several hours overnight, led to the arrest of three men believed to be central figures in the killings.
The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, aged 23, a resident of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, from Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.
Their arrest took place between 10 p.m. on Saturday and 4 a.m. on Sunday during a carefully coordinated sting operation.
Investigators revealed that Umar Auwalu allegedly played a leading role in the crime.
During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to involvement in the Dorayi Chiranchi killings and disclosed disturbing details about the planning and execution of the attack.
Police further disclosed that Auwalu is a nephew of the deceased woman, a revelation that has deepened public shock and raised troubling questions about family-related violence in Kano.
Beyond the Dorayi Chiranchi tragedy, the suspects were also linked to an earlier crime in Tudun Yola Quarters, where two women were reportedly killed and their bodies set ablaze weeks before.
That incident had already stirred anxiety among residents, with many calling for stronger security measures across Kano metropolis.
According to the police, Umar Auwalu admitted that the same group had been responsible for multiple violent attacks in recent times.
Investigators believe the syndicate may have targeted victims they perceived as vulnerable, exploiting familiarity with their surroundings to carry out their actions.
During the arrests, officers recovered several items believed to be connected to the crimes.
These included blood-stained clothing, two mobile phones said to belong to the deceased, a cutlass, a heavy club, and a sum of money allegedly taken from the Dorayi Chiranchi residence.
Other dangerous objects were also seized as evidence, strengthening the case against the suspects.
The Kano Police Command emphasized that investigations remain ongoing, noting that efforts are underway to determine whether additional individuals were involved or if the suspects had links to a broader criminal network operating within Kano.
Authorities assured residents that every angle of the case would be thoroughly examined to ensure justice for the victims.
