The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man allegedly responsible for spreading inciting social media clips that authorities say could disrupt peace and create fear among residents across the state.
The arrest, according to the police, followed intelligence reports indicating that certain audio and video messages were being circulated online with statements capable of provoking tension.
Security officials expressed concern that the inciting social media clips could lead to panic or even trigger public disorder if not addressed swiftly.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, explained that the suspect was apprehended during a carefully coordinated sting operation carried out by officers of the command.
He noted that the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation as investigators attempt to uncover the motive behind the recordings.
According to the police commissioner, the controversial messages had already gained traction on several social media platforms before security agencies intervened.
Authorities believe the inciting social media clips contained statements capable of misleading members of the public and heightening anxiety among residents.
Bakori stated that the command received credible reports about the circulation of the recordings and immediately launched an investigation.

The police commissioner reiterated that anyone found responsible for sharing misleading information that threatens public peace would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
