Security operatives in Oyo State have made a significant breakthrough in tackling street crime following the arrest of six individuals allegedly involved in Ibadan tricycle robbery syndicate.
The suspects were apprehended after intelligence reports exposed their hideout and mode of operation, which had reportedly put many residents on edge.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Oyo State Police Command, who acted on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.
According to sources, residents had noticed unusual movements at a hotel located around the busy 7UP/Academy axis of Ibadan.
Their concerns prompted a report to the police, which ultimately led to a swift and strategic response.
Upon receiving the information, the police organized a coordinated raid targeting the location.
Officers stormed the premises in a carefully executed sting operation, successfully arresting all six suspects without incident.

The development marked a turning point in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks linked to Ibadan tricycle robbery activities.
The individuals arrested were identified as Kelvin Daniel (21), Idris Ramon (25), Christopher Solomon (35), Mohamed Telim (21), Taored Aderibigbe (30), and Adekunle Tolani (27).
Authorities believe the group is part of a broader criminal ring that has been exploiting tricycles—commonly used for public transportation—as a cover to rob unsuspecting passengers and pedestrians.
Items recovered during the operation further strengthened the case against the suspects. Police discovered eighteen mobile phones of various brands, suggesting that the group may have targeted multiple victims over time.
In addition, one Opay ATM card and a National Identification Number (NIN) card were found, both believed to belong to victims of the alleged crimes.
Perhaps most critical among the recovered items was a tricycle bearing the registration number OYO SHK 508 QP.
Investigators have identified the vehicle as a key tool used by the gang in carrying out their operations.
The tricycle reportedly allowed the suspects to move freely within the city while avoiding suspicion, a tactic commonly associated with Ibadan tricycle robbery incidents.
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alayande Olayinka, confirmed that preliminary investigations have already yielded useful insights.
According to him, the suspects have admitted to being members of a criminal syndicate responsible for a series of robberies across different parts of Ibadan.
Olayinka emphasized that the police remain committed to ensuring the safety of residents and will continue to act decisively on credible intelligence.
He also assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure justice is served.
“The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. They will be charged to court once the process is completed,” he stated.
He further encouraged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and accurate information that could aid in crime prevention.
The arrest highlights the importance of community-police collaboration in addressing security challenges.
Without the tip-off from observant residents, the suspects might have continued their operations unchecked.
This case serves as a reminder that public vigilance plays a crucial role in curbing crimes such as Ibadan tricycle robbery.
In recent times, there have been growing concerns about the misuse of commercial tricycles for criminal purposes.
While tricycles remain an essential mode of transportation for many Nigerians, especially in urban centers like Ibadan, incidents like this have raised questions about regulation and monitoring within the sector.
Authorities are now urging operators and passengers alike to remain cautious and report any suspicious behavior.
The police have also hinted at plans to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering to prevent similar crimes in the future.
As investigations continue, residents of Ibadan are hopeful that the crackdown on this syndicate will lead to a decline in related criminal activities.
The successful operation not only disrupts the activities of the suspects but also sends a strong message to others involved in Ibadan tricycle robbery that law enforcement agencies are actively tracking and dismantling such networks.
