Ibadan Polo Club hosts 2025 AAG Capital Presidents Cup this weekend, featuring top players, free entry, live entertainment, and high-octane chukkas
The ancient city of Ibadan is gearing up for one of the highlights of Nigeria’s sporting and social calendar as the Ibadan Polo Club prepares to stage the 2025 edition of the prestigious AAG Capital Presidents Cup on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November.

Announced during a media briefing on Wednesday by the club’s President, Mr Abimbola Adeyemi, the two-day tournament will feature six of the country’s strongest polo outfits battling for supremacy on the historic Ibadan turf.
Leading the line-up of guest teams are two formidable Lagos-based sides, Bemil-Aka and Tharwa Mikano, who will face stiff competition from home favourites AAG Capital, Almina Group, MSR-BUA, and Red Couch.
Spectators are in for a treat as some of Nigeria’s most accomplished players take to the field. Among the star attractions will be high-goal talents Ahmed Umar, Dantala Ibrahim, and Yemo Alakija, all renowned for their skill, speed, and tactical brilliance. Their presence guarantees fast-paced, high-quality chukkas that have become the hallmark of the Presidents Cup.
Beyond the on-field action, the tournament promises a complete entertainment experience. Club executives have placed heavy emphasis on guest comfort and safety, deploying comprehensive security details led by personnel from the 42 Engineer Brigade, on-site medical teams, controlled access points, and an expansive hospitality village.
Refreshments will flow throughout the weekend, while an entertainment corner featuring a resident DJ, live band performances, and premium relaxation lounges will keep the atmosphere electric between matches.

Adding further prestige to the occasion, several high-profile dignitaries have confirmed their attendance.
Expected guests include the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Edward Ogundoyin; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Governor, Hon Kazeem Adeniyi Bibire; and the Commander of the 42 Engineer Brigade, Ibadan, Brigadier General S.O.G. Aremu, among other notable personalities.
In keeping with tradition, entry to the Ibadan Polo Ground on Eleyele Road is completely free to the public. Gates will open daily well ahead of the 3:00 pm throw-in, allowing ample time for fans to settle in and soak up the vibrant pre-match atmosphere.
The tournament enjoys robust backing from a long list of corporate partners committed to growing polo culture in southwestern Nigeria.
Title sponsor AAG Capital is joined by BUA Group, MSR, Kolomoni, Red Couch, ODA Liquor Store, Kàshi Doing More, DFL, Indomie, and several other brands whose support has helped elevate production values year after year.
Speaking at the briefing, Mr Adeyemi expressed confidence that this year’s edition would surpass previous tournaments in both sporting quality and overall experience.
With world-class players, top-tier organisation, free admission, and a festive off-field programme, the 2025 AAG Capital Presidents Cup is shaping up to be the social event of the season in Ibadan.
Polo enthusiasts are advised to arrive early to secure the best viewing spots as the ancient city prepares to celebrate Nigeria’s “sport of kings” in grand style.
